why wont it work?
why wont it work?
I decided to install my new headunit today. I have all of the wires hooked up correctly and have power to the cd player. I can put in a cd and it shows it playing, but Im not getting any sound. What the hell is up with that? I had the stock bose system and I know that theres a seperate stock amp in the trunk somewhere. Do I need to diconnect that? Ive installed probably 7 or 8 headunits before and have never had this problem.
Thats what Im thinking. My headunit is brand new, but I guess theres a possibility of a manufacturers defect. Has anyone with the bose system had this problem? Please respond if so, my car dash is allover. Thanks
It should work if you got the harness with it. I just had a HU before I got my system. And there was sound even when it was hooked up to the stock HU. If you got a harness it should be working. So all i could say is, check the harness to make sure it's the right one.
I had a unit that WOUDLNT work if the antenna wasnt wired correct. Try unpluggin, plugging, etc. I know you said the CD didnt work, but I was floored when I figured this out with mine.
make sure the remote turn on wire is connected... the stock amp needs that, if theres 2 turn on wires comming from the deck, one should be for the antenna, and one for an amp... make sure to use the one for the amp, cause the antenna one will turn off when you switch to another source. Also, if the headunit has the capability, make sure the internal amp is turned on, some decks have the ability to turn it off for cleaner signal out of the pre-amps. Only other thing I can think of is the fuse for the amp... but I think that its the same one for the deck and amp.

I don't have a Blows system in my Acura, but I had one in my Maxima. It was a nightmare to put in an aftermarket HU. Again, this was for a different system, but MIGHT be applicable in your situation. I will research this further as I plan on changing my HU as well.
The stock head unit had no amp built in. It was line level only. There were amps for each individual speaker. In order to make the aftermarket HU work, you need to get a line level adapter for around $50.
A much better way to do this is to get new speakers all around and just run wires to them or even use the existing wires. You can't use the original speakers because the impedence on the stockers is either 1 or 8 ohms, I forget which one, but most aftermarket HU's are set for 4 ohm speakers. So it'll either sound weak or blow your speakers and/or amp in the head unit.
PM me if you or anyone needs more info of this. I plan on doing extensive research soon and will post results when I find them. Good Luck!

I went out and messed with it this morning. I didnt try the radio yesterday, but I did today and that works. Its just the damn cd player, I guess manufacturers defect.
No defect I infact had this problem. before I installed dozens of head units on my friends cars and they worked but for some reason the radio worked but cd player didnt on my CL
Yesterday I talked to someone and told them the problem at SOUND N'CREDIBLE it turns out the other place I went to said I had to re-wire the whole system because unlike others we have an amp then I went to SOUND N'CREDIBLE just to make sure and they guy confirmed it then I told him that I had the radio working on my friends deck that I gave him and he let me try it but no sound from a CD and he said that means I hooked up the antenna wire in the harness like normal and it thought that was the amp and thats why my radio gave sound so another friend of mine is letting me use his Alpine so what the guy said was I had to hook the amp wire to the power antenna for CD player sound so what I did last night was hook up the power antenna and the amp wire (both the blue and blue/white wires) to the blue one on the other harness and now it works hope this helps you its hard to explain.
It is like tricking the amp into thinking it is just the way it was
Only thing is I dont want to buy the Alpine off my friend so im giving it back I am waiting for the new line to come out

Or you could just read what I wrote and you'll understand.
There are 2 remote turn on wires comming out of the deck, one for the antenna and one for an amp. The antenna one is only on with the radio, so when you switch to the cd player the amp will turn off. You need to wire the AMP remote wire to the remote turn on wire for the amp (listed as "power antenna" on the car harness). Do not connect the AMP and ANTENNA wires together.

Thanks alot guys, I took your advice and succesfully installed my headunit, everything is working fine. The only thing Im not real happy with is when I switch songs on the cd or when I switch from the radio to the cd the moment of silence inbetween I can hear static. Im almost positive all of my wires are connected right. Thanks again guys.
your getting noise cause there is such a strong signal going to the amp... there is natrually a little noise produced by the deck, but being there is so much sound going into the amp the noise is being amplified as well. A way around this is to run your pre amp outputs to the stock amp... by soldering RCA's onto the speaker wires in the car... that should help out.

I'm not sure if this was an oversight on your part, but aren't you forgetting the line level converter?

Sorry, I was explaining that as if he has pre-outs on the deck, but your right, if he does not have them, then a LOC would be needed. Thanks.

I put a new head unit in my 3.0 and the reason ur not getting any sound is cause u gotta buy another harness they make to connect aftermarket head units to stock bose systems. its only like $20 u gotta connect it with the aftermarket harness for ur head unit. the stock car harness plugs into the box and then u splice the wires on ur head unit harness and connect the box to it. Go to any audio place and tell them u need the converter harness to put a gead unit on a stock bose system.
