Who is affected by the new recall?

The ignition recall that allows the key to be removed from the ignition w/o the car being in park.

Is this a new ignition recall or the same one from a few months ago?

A few months ago I received a notice from Acura saying that they had an ignition recall and I got it fixed from the dealer.

ye aim confused..i think this is 2 different recalls right?? the first one a few months ago was about the ignition being faulty and your car could lock up and die while driving. . . .and this new one is about the key comming out???

Im confused...i got the last ignition recall done a few months back...so is this s new recall? and if so, how can i tell if mine CL needs fixed????

thanks.. (97' 3.0)

I would recommend pulling the parking brake everytime you park. If not your rear brakes/parking brake cable will fail. This helps keep the parts moving and in working order. Anyone who tells you it doesnt matter is obviously someone who doesn't know anything.

100% agreed, it also relieves some stress on the tranny because the car isn't resting on it when sitting. Know that little movement you feel after putting the car in park.

This is especially true if you live on a hill!!!! If you dont use your parking brake your tranny will get messed up over time!

When you dont use your parking brake and you let it rest on the tranny, you can sometimes hear the gears pop into place as you put it into gear.

lol, well i dont ever put my car in park, i put it in neutral and pull the parking brake, i thinks its better because i dont have to make the tranny go through reverse. I dont know if its just mine but when i put it in reverse a loud CLICK comes from the tranny, and it doesnt sound good, so thats why i do it.(98 3.0)

I don't think you should ever be able to pull the key out in a 3.0 unless it's in park. Sounds like that's the warranty work they're talking about. Have mailings gone out from Acura yet?

LoL, I had to go try this. I've seen this thread already, but it wasn't untill today that I actually tried it. Anyway here are my results.

Park = key comes out! (This is normal)
Reverse = key stays in.
Neutral = key stays in.
D4 = key comes out!!!
D3 = key comes out!!!
2 = key comes out!!!
1 = key comes out!!!

I didn't think the key would come out but it did. I also had the first ignition switch recall, so I guess this must be a new one. Anyway if you do try it, dont forget to put the parking brake!!!

Are you guys talking about just pulling the key out while in any gear other than park or turning the key to the off position and then pulling it out while in any gear other than park? If i do the latter the key comes out in every gear including reverse. 98 3.0 with the first ignition recall done.

hi, i have the same question as goodfella....
i have a 98 2.3 premium, and the key comes out of the ignition only when the engine is off. is this the recall? or are we talking about being able to pull the key when the engine is on????

i bought the car used, so i don't receive any mail from acura. plus, being in Canada, i haven't be able to register my vin with ownerlink to check for recalls on my car....has anyone else (especially from Canada) encountered this problem???

Okay... So let me get this straight... if u can pull the key out of the ignition when in any gear other than park... u are officially affected by the recall right? or are u supposed to be able to pull the key out of the ignition when in any gear? i think there is like 3 different topics in this thread... something to do with emergency brake.. and trannies.. and the recall.. im confused!!

You should go back and read!!! But let me clarify this for you and for the other people that can't read

1. There was a recall on the ignition swicth before this one. The first ignition switch recall turned the car off while driving or something to that effect. (someone correct me if i'm wrong)

2. The second recall is also for the ignition switch. Only that in this one the key comes out while in gear. For example, go to your car put the key in the ignition, turn the key to the open position then put it into gear (any gear), and try to take out the key.(you have to turn the key as if you were turning it off to see if it comes out) If it comes out then you are affected by the second recall. Just remember to put your hand brake on so your car doesnt start to roll.

All this talk about the hand brake and trannies is just to let you know that you should'nt rest your car on the trannie. By this I mean you should put the hand brake on before you let go of the brake when you park. Not doing so puts stress on the gears in the trannie. Also the hand brake should be put on while you are checking to see if you are affected by the recall. Otherwise with the car in gear, and the key out of the ignition, your car is going to start rolling unless you have your foot on the brake.

Now I hope this clarifies things for you!

I need to check this out right now!

BTW: This happened to a Camaro I owned some time ago. I thought it was great to be able to start the car, then remove the key, lock the car, and let it warm up while I stayed toasty in the house.
