Whining noise?

Whining noise?

So when I start the car, it make a whining noise but then goes away after a minute or so, but when i accelerate through all the gears it makes the same sound. But then when the cars warmed up or if i have been driving it a lot i wont hear the noise on start up or driving it. Could it be belts?

Yep, it's one of the belts, most likely the serpentine

and then my engine light came on on my way home. Ive got a code reader but I dont think it could be related...im thinking the tranny is on its last leg
