i wouldnt do it if i were you again, think about this, going 10 mph down the street oops i tossed it in reverse, oops there went my tranny that i ran over from fucking around . i would say that it would affect the gears especially if your an auto, i know i do it sometime when im backing up and im in a roll, i go from r to d4 but thats no biggie, but going from driving to reverse and your car is moving, picture sticking a stick into your tranny and it will it jammed up if you do it too much, i would assume

I have a 5spd, but on by old auto mitsu, i did the same thing letting roll on N. However, i dint have to press the button, just pulled it back or forward and it only went to D and N. that way you could switch between the two all day and not have to worry about going into reverse by mistake The 3.0s are the same way right?

if it feels fine i'm sure it is. 5 speeds grind if your even moving backwards at all and try to put it in reverse. I learned that real quick.

ok... i got a question... well first off let me say NO its NOT OK to do that!!! There is NO override gear but it probably didnt engage right away.... THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING and highly recommend avoiding it again!

now my ???: How did you manage... in order to switch to nuetral you do not have to press the button... but you do have to press the buttom from nuetral to reverse..... so were you pressing the button?!?!?! Im just curious!

shifting..

for those who have auto transmission like I do.. let's say your in reverse.. and your going to D4.. you guys don't need to press the button.. just push the thing down from R to D4..

now from D4 or D3..you don't need to press the button if you want to go to NEUTRAL.. just push it up.. it will stop at Neutral and it won't go to reverse if you do it this way because it will lock at Neutral but you can still push it down to go back to D4 or D3..whatever you feel.. but if you press on the button from D4 to go to Neutral.. you can do this but you might also slipped and put it on reverse.. and you DON'T WANT TO DO THIS.. so the better way to put your auto stick to neutral is by not pressing the button at all.. because like I said.. it will stop at neutral and will not go to Reverse...

By the way, for those who didn't know.. you can also shift from 1 to 2 to D3 to D4 if you want to drive it like manual.. hehehe.. but you must press the button if you want to put it in 1 or 2 becaue it has the locking mechanism there.. but starting from 1 going to D4.. no need to press the button.. just keep pushing it up when you want to shift.. but be kinda control the shifter because sometimes when your trying to go to D4.. sometimes it slipps to Neutral.. hehehe.. aight.. I think I said enough.. whew.. hope this helps..

ummm Acura3.0cl said that he REPLACED his shifter with one that DOESNT HAVE A BUTTON so he can go from d4 to reverse without having to do anything but push the lever forward thats why we are having this conversation.

oops...

ooops.. I misread.. i feel so stupid.. well I guess I am.. lols.. anyways.. yeah yeah.. WHY DID YOU PUT A SHIFT KNOB without a button to your auto?? hmmm.. i guess you like it that way.. but something still bothers me.. how can you go to reverse from neutral or from D4 without pressing a button? because like I said a while back.. the only way you can put it to reverse is to press the button.. hmmm.. oh well.. JUST DON'T PUT IT IN REVERSE AGAIN THAT WAY.. hehehe..

look at me WWW on the last page for a pict of it...then u might understand

This reminds me of my biggest driving f*c#-up ever. It's worth telling you my story just for the laugh!....

So I'm in high school, working for the Chrysler/Nissan dealership in the evenings and on weekends. They sent me to a neighboring city to drop off a Title at the DMV(or some type of office building) in a used Mitsu Eclipse 5-speed. So I drove a stick all day, which I'm not used to, because my car was an auto Chrysler lebaron. Now I get home after work and I get in a fight with my mom. I left the house pissed off, and drove down the street to my friends house. Coming to a stop at the intersection, I throw my car into "First" (ummm, that's park on an auto!) and locked all four wheels up on GRAVEL! Thank GOD it was gravel! I would have been SCREWED getting a new tranny.....
So it just goes to show-don't drive pissed off!... and don't be a dumbass like me!!!!

How did you manage that? Mine won't going into reverse unless I press the button, from P, N, or D. But you got yours to go into reverse while it was moving foward too?

You will tear up your torque converter doing that in an Auto.

Well if you didn't feel anything when it went into R, that mean the torque converter never built up enought torque to kick it into reverse gear. so you have nothing to worry about.
