When to clean the filter?

I've had my aem cai on for about 5 months now and I've noticed a slight loss of power, very minimal though. I thought it might be from my filter being dirty, I wanted to know how often you guys with k&n's clean the filter and do you feel a difference after. I had my intake professionally installed so i'm not sure how they put it on and was wondering if I had to take off the bumper to get to the filter or not. peace

I clean mine every 3000 miles. At least that's what I was told I should do. I don't notice any increase in hp after cleaning just sounds better.

your going to have to take the inner wheel well out, or atleast bend it back to get to the filter. Pain in the ass, try not to bust any of the clips. Good luck.

I took mine out at 10K miles and it wasnt even close to being dirty. I cleaned it then and prior to going to my dyno session just to make sure.

These are not similar to paper filters that need changing every 6k miles.

You should clean it every other oil change..............You need to go out and get the K & N recharge kit ($10). The hardest part about cleaning it is getting to it. pop out the tabs in the wheel well and peel it. I did it today and broke 4 out of 5 tabs, so be careful.

50k is a long time..........depending on how dusty your area is, that filter can get pretty nasty. Dust and dirt will build up on outside of the filter, restricting air flow.

I know you weren't...............I thought you were askin a question. That link ferfers to the drop in filter which has covers on them. Our CAI filters sit pretty low, up against the bottom plastic cover exposed to all kinds of dust and dirt. I'm sure cleaning it every 50k miles is fine, but I just feel more comfortable cleaning it every 6-10K. Better safe than sorry
