What's the hype behind the TSX?

I'm not that knowledgeable on the newest things, but the TSX is just a 200hp L4 DOCH VTEC four-door. To me, this translates into a RSX engine/drivetrain in a Civic body with an "A" badge. Or an Accord body...can't tell just from looking at the pictures.

I was reading some of the posts on the TSX forums, and those guys think the TSX will go up against BMW 3-series and Lexus G350's. I personally think they're on crack! I love Acura's and that's all I drive....but I don't smoke crack. To me, the TSX will probably compete with the Nissan Altima's and Toyota Corolla-S and the IS300 at best. Personally, I'd rather get the Accord EX coupe 6-speed over the TSX. It's just too reminiscent of the 2nd Gen Integ four-door.

imma have to disagree with you on that one. it will be good competition for the BMW's....... that come with "leatherette"

anyway, it's based on the small accord chassis, same as the euro accord and the jdm accord.

the usdm accord is the medium chassis

and the TL/Honda Saber and Inspire are the large accord chassis.

the totyota corolla S is meant to compte with the civic.

at any rate, take a look at our sister site. www.acura-tsx.com

That's what I wanted to find out.

But still...if you think about it...it IS an oversea's Accord. If we were oversea's would this Accord compete againt 3-series and other premium sport sedans from Europe and Japan like acura-tsx.com says?

That is what gets me. Basically, they're bringing over a JDM Accord but rebadging it as an Acura TSX so there won't be two different Accords on the road. BUT it's still underpowered compared to the upcoming Accord EX coupe 6-speed...but at the same time, it's suppose to compete with the 3-series and such?

it's another variant of the accord that we are getting. underpowered?

hard to say becuase the car is smaller than the accord we have over here. it should make for some really spirited driving.

the interior promises to be really nice also.

i have my money that it'll be faster than the IS and 325.

hmmm...I dunno about that either. I've only seen the comparo between the 325's and CL-S and that was a close one. I can't imagine the 3.0 1st Gen CL's being in that same category.

maybe if you're spraying or found some other way to beat horsepower out of our motors.

the CL-S will spank the following 3 series BMW's . but only in a straight line.
323, 325, 328, 330.

The TSX is the European Accord with stiffer suspension and better engine, and is designed to compete with the 3 series and Lexus IS both in cost and performance. The TSX might not be as quick in a straight line, but promises to make up for it in the corners. It's filling a void left by the 1st-gen CL: smaller, mid-20s priced, sport-minded "luxury" car.

Acura only plans on selling about 10,000 a year of them, so it ruly is a niche car for them. Most people won't "get" it.

Sean

PS It's not the RSX Type-S engine at all. It's a version of the same family of engines, but with 2.4l of displacement, therefore much more torque.

I enjoy killing the 323, 325, 328, 330, 528, 530, and playing with the 540s!

actually the 3.0 does beat the 325, and the 528...but the 328 slowly pulls away and the 530 is fairly even. I have raced them all. Even a Dinan 540 with ESS supercharger and twin turbo supra, ya those last 2 kick the fuck out of my car, but then i got to drive their cars, so it's all good

i thought it was a 2.4L DOHC no vtec, either way 2.4L = lots of torque. at least 170lbs. the car will move decently. im guessin stock 0-60s mid - high 6s and 1/4 in the low 15s

The only non-vtec engines still used are found in the civic dx, lx, and i think hybrid. oh and the insight. not sure if teh hybrids are vtec but i dont think so.

And let me tell you, the TSX is a fun as hell car.
Sure i love the 6spd accord and its faster, but the TSX will out handle it.

Really??

I don't think I like the new Accords that much. The four door looks like a big Civic and the coupe looks cheap for some reason.

Yeah, but only the 6spd is worth getting. Test drive one with the racing clutch and short throws and you'll love it too. Fast as hell.

it's a pretty cool car because it's basiclly the JDM accord. which means that alot of jdm parts will be avalible for it. it that car become fully built, yeah i just might me some comp. plus it going to be backed by companies such as mugen, hks, topfuel, denzo, and apexi

When you talking about Honda/Acura cars you can't look at just the HP and how big the engine is....look at the NSX. That car took on car twice the HP and size. NSX-R is the supercar of 2002 in Europe.

IMO the TSX doesn't look all that, but i think it'll be the next Civic Si HB. Pull up to somebody with a stock motor and say "dont worry about what kinda motor i got, just race dammit!"

I read a review in Car & Driver last month. They kinda liked it for the usual Acura reasons (fit & finish, etc.), but it falls short of Acura's claim that it's a BMW killer.

No its not a bimmer or lexus killer. Its just a fun little car with amazing build quality.

And no i dont think it will be a lcose call with a cls. The cls will kill it. But the tsx is quick peppy and fun.

As much as I love the TSX, if given the choice of its "competitors" i would take the is300 5spd over it. But i would seriously consider buying a TSX if i had the money right now.

That must explain why the salesmen are acting like they have some "hot" car on their hands, which I don't understand when you consider the competition the TSX is up against.

I test drove one and it didnt drive much better than my 97 CL 3.0. It has same HP and it didnt feel faster on the highway in passing and it doesnt have the smooth pickup that the CL 3.0 has. The seats are stiff but more supportive than the rigid RSX seats. The TSX has a advanced Nav system that is much better than the ones on the 2nd Gen CL and TL.
