What should I do

Some of you might have noticed my posts in the other thread, but I need another opinion. I got rear ended 2 weeks ago and the only damage was to my rear bumper and one of the muffler tips!

I am working on the solution for the rear bumper, so that should be taken care of.

I am wondering what everyone recommends I do for the muffler? Remember it is only the tip that goes around one of the muffler tips, so that might be easily replaced, but may require welding or possible bolt-on. Haven't really looked at it.

Lets say I purchase a new muffler, would that be bolt on? or would that require welding?

So my questions really are:

1) Should I purchase a new muffler if I could install it myself.
2) What muffler should I purchase for around $75-100. I wouldn't mind cheaper, but I don't want to buy something that is not a quality product.

Thanks!

Yes they had insurance.. Estimate was around $550. I figured replacing the bumper should be easy enough so I plan on installing that myself. And for the muffler I'd get an aftermarket one and if possible install it myself. My goal is to save $100 or so because I need the money bad right now.

magnaflow muffler/exhaust is the way to go. I'm sure a local muffler shop would have these for pretty cheap.

if it's just your exhaust tip and you're stuck for money, take off the tips and be done with it. Later on replace the tips or exhaust... unless your exhaust is bent to shit and the pipe underneath your car is cracked...

It is honestly just one of the tips. So depending on me finding a bumper then I will see about the muffler.

FYI if anyone needs a dark grey rear bumper one of the junkyards I called had one for around $215 shipped.

I'd concentrate on the bumper for now, I lost an exhaust tip a few months ago so I just took the other one off. It looks odd but i'll get some new ones...

A little update.. I got a check from the other persons insurance company for $900! It was for the highest estimate, the lowest one being $550. I figured I would get $550, but now that I have the money I can purchase a bumper, that 97BlackAck gave me and just install it myself.

Thanks again for the link!

I'll use this as an update since the bumper thread wasn't mine originally. BlackAck I ordered that bumper from one of your Ebay links and got it in today. Let me just say that if you guys ever want to unwrap something order a bumper from them. Took me like 10 minutes to unwrap the thing of all the bubblewrap and tape.

After getting all the stuff off the bumper is very impressive. I haven't looked at the whole thing, but I looked a bit to check and see if the paint matched and it does. I plan on installing it next Friday and hopefully can do a DIY for rear bumper removal.

From what I remember the rear bumper is easy to remove. Just unscrew some screws from inside the trunk and it should pop off?

Nice, which company did you end up going with? I am getting a front bumper from one of them.

the muffler tips...

since you have the money now you may as well just buy a full exhaust kit but the tips... go to a junkyard, find a CL, take off the tips and get them for like 3 bucks a piece or so

I'm working for the month of april for my last summer job until I graduate so I'm gonna use that money to get an exhaust kit. The left over money was to replenish my bank account that my Dad let me borrow, but I spent it on my carputer I almost have all of it back though!
