What could it be??

OK, as you all know i got my new 98 CL a couple of days ago. I noticed that when i'm idiling there is a slight shaking of the car. I do know alot about cars but i'm not sure what this could be. I thought possibly some screws loose on or near the exhaust and that might be the reason why it shakes a little?!?! But when i throw it into N (neu.)It stops shaking. Well hopefully someone can help me!!

Thanks
Dave
(oh i also have a 1 month warranty from the dealer i bought it at so I will be bringing it to them to have them take a look at it and fix it.)

Hey, congrats on your purchase and welcome to the board.

When the car is at idle, where are the RPM's at? Also, how long was the car sitting for, was she warmed-up already or does it happen any time the car is at idle?

Yeah.......if it is warm and the idle is correct, you may have a bad motor mount. When you put it neutral I'll bet the RPMs go up about 100+/-, this could be why it seems to go away.

Definitely take it into the dealer before the waranty expires..........no matter what it is, they should fix it.

And congrats on your CL purchase!

Ive seen in the manual for the 2.2 that the automatics (3.0's) have a vacuum actuated engine/transmission mount that supposed to help with shaking at idle. You might want to start there.

If you have a warranty...go that route. You wont learn as much but you wont HAVE to.

If you have an intake on the car that is probably what is causeing it, if not you can easily adjust your idle RPMs but adjusting your throttle linkage, that is also a good way for the rest of you to free up HP. It imporves throttle response.

Well i went out driving today and well it did seem to shake alittle more when it was cold. Now to be honest it is a small small shake but i just feel stuff like that. Well i'm going to take it to the dealer next week. So we will see what happens!!

Thanks

Mine likes to vibrate at idle too. It has done that since we drove it off the showroom floor though. It gets really bad when the fan kicks in

my car is usually good at idle but every now and then she goes from 7-800 rpm to like 600 and starts to hesitate and shake but then is ok again...
