What can I use to cut my shifter?

I've had a short shifter adapter for a long time now and want to put it in tomorrow maybe. In the process I want to cut the shifter to make it shorter along with the throws.
All I have is an 80.00 electric jig saw. Can I get a blade that will cut iron!?!?!?!
I have a blow torch ( : Can I heat it up and then use bolt cutters?
I have no idea

...but if you have to do it I would recommend either a dremel or a hacksaw.

I used a hacksaw, but first put a towel or something around the shifter to catch the filings. I also found a nut in my toolbox the same size thread as the threads on the shifter and screwed it way down so that when you cut the shifter if you have to cut the threaded part you can unscrew the nut back over the bangled up threads and doing that should fix them. Then your shifter knob should screw right on. If you are not cutting the threaded part just saw away.

if you're asking this question, in all honesty, I dont believe you have the tools to do it properly. If you just cut at the top where the threads are, you'll only lose a 1/2" or so. The best way to do it is to take the whole shifter out of the car... cut at the stock weld, where the "arm" meets the "base" and remove the amount of shifter that you want. You then re-weld the arm to the base. Its easy as hell with the right tools.

Keep in mind that the shifter arm is hollow, you cant cut the top off and re-shape the shaft to a smaller diameter and re-thread it.

Send me your shifter if you want and i'll do it for free, just let me know how much u want gone.

heres my accord one... i know, people have said it looks bad with the slight surface rust on it. I could care less, its never seen unless the whole center console is pulled off.

Tha arm is HOLLOW!?!?!? This should be a piece of cake. I thought it was solid iron.
I really don't want much more than an inch cut off. I don't want a stub, just shorter.
And I could care less about the threads. Aftermarket knob

this should work too..

just kidding but a drimmel is prolly the best idea for a more accurate cut.

also i think its some kinda aluminum alloy... cuts easily with a hack saw.
dont cut off too much or make sure your after market knob will go over the thicker part that your cutting to... and keep in mind there walls are only like 1/8"

DONE

Right in time for the game.

I cut about 1/2 inch to 3/4 and installed the adapter. I took some pics but I need to do some after pics and it's dark now, so I'll post them tomorrow. About to go for a test drive now

I didn't want a stub like the above pic ^^^
It's cosmetically almost perfect. The only issue - I wish it were about another half an inch shorter, but the shift knob wouldn't have fit. Either way it LOOKS much better than stock. But this was my second agenda.
My goal was to make it better for actual shifting. The short shifter adapter was my main agenda and making the shifter shorter was secondary. So the result: AWESOME. I've had this adapter for almost two years sitting in the original packaging. Should have done this a long time ago. The throws are so small and it just kind of clicks in. Before there was always some input required from either my elbow or shoulder. Now it's all by hand alone and effortless.
Great mod.
Only problem: my emergency brake doesn't work at all now. I think I've encounterd this before and it's a pretty easy fix with the hand switch or something. I'll get on it tomorrow.
