weird screeching sound...

last night I was revving up against a friend of mine for fun at a red light. However, I was weirded out because as I was doing this, I began hearing a screeching sound everytime I pushed the gas.

After I got going though, it went away.

Now, right as im about to leave for work, I start the car and I hear the same sound as it starts, but then as idle kicks in, it goes away.

Friends last night told me it might be the belts (Just changed them for the new pulleys) but That was almost a week ago. Now's when i start hearing this sound because of that? Not too sure.

Any help guys? thx.

hmm... suggestions in previous posts say it could be the brakes, but that wouldnt make sense because I wasnt even driving when the sound came on...

Gonna go check them now anyways.

It's not going to be your brakes if you wern't moving

Check you belts tension, and maybe some belt dressing? Did you install the new pullies? Your belts/pullies are your best bet.

just checked it w/my pops. It was definitely the belts I had the pulleys/new belts installed this past week, but they werent making any sound just until last night.

I'll be taking my car to the mechs within the next couple of days so I guess I'll ask them to check it out for me then.

...or should I be more concerned about this?

as long as they arent flappin around they should be ok until you get them adjusted. if they are too tight they will also squeak. and belt dressing is just a temporary solution to a perminant problem.
