VTEC light
so i first got this idea when i was randomly browsing a del-sol forum. basically, some guy had tapped the wire that leads out of the ECU that activates the VTEC solenoid. he used the 12 volt lead to light up a LED on his dash when vtec was engaged.
i guess its kinda useless but sounds like a random cool thing to have, so i was thnking about putting one in. anyone think thats a good idea, or just get annoying?

That sounds very cool actually. I'm going to look into doing this myself.
Thanks for the idea! I think a little red rectangle with black letters: "VTEC engaged" would be cool to have in the dash.

whynot just get a shift light?... u know when Vtec engages... but u guys covered hat.. it's really useless, therefore i see a shift light near redline a more usefull thing. IMO

I think if u get like a red LED or wut ever coor you prefer and drill a hole in the plastic piece in front of the gauges that holds the CC and lighting controlle would be tight. Whenever u guys do this take some pics and post them on the DIY forum. I'm really curious. Are all the wire colors the same in the first gen. CL's?

Wouldn't tapping into these wires alter the voltage or ampres required to activate the solenoid? It seems like the LED would add a level of resistance to the circuit. Oh well, just curious.

LED's use so little electricity its rediculous. it wouldnt hurt at all. it might hurt the LED having it on a 12V source so you might want to look into higher voltage LED's or it will burn out very quickly. and when i say burn i mean BURN. most LEDs are designed to run on a .5-6V(depending on which you get) source so you would probably have to have some sort of resistor in the circuit(which could fuck up the circuit). try radio shack. or look for www.newarkinone.com they carry industrial electronic components. probably lookin at around 1-2 dollars max with a shipping cost of about 30 cents. i already have a few laying around bc i used to work for newark. anything found not in a package is yours. company policy. actually thats my policy but sshhhh dont tell.

I'd like to do this & ive read info on it before, but im clueless when it comes to electrical and the last thing i need to do is start a fire or screw up my electrical....i'll wait until someone else does it before I do it....
I'd actually like to get a gauge pod with a few gauges and maybe put the vtec light on there...

That is a cute idea, kinda pointless, but to each his own. I can't believe that a clubcivic site was posted on here though

ok this is all you gotta do, doesnt require much electrical knowledge at all.
1. get a plastic wire tap, and tap a long wire into the line coming out of the ECU for the vtec solenoid.
2. run this wire to the positive lead of the LED you plan on using.
3. you can then wire the negative end of the LED to any ground source (just find a bolt on an unpainted surface or just tap it into the negative end of some other bulb/appliance).
if you do it this way, you will not be affecting the voltage going into the vtec solenoid since the two lines are now paralleled. you must also make sure that the LED is rated for 12 volts or you will have to mess with resistors. you can get 12 volt LED's at radio shack.
