I have one installed. A VAFC will help only if you TUNE it at a shop. You could attempt to mess with it yourself by adjusting the air/fuel settings, but I don't know anyone that would recommend that unless you know what your doing. Even so, you'd still need a dyno to see the results.

You can get a Apexi VAFC, for about 150 shipped I believe. I think I've even seen them go for 100 on ebay.

You can get the Apexi VAFC 2, for about 250+ shipped. (havent checked on prices in awhile)

Tuning ran me $125 for 1 1/2 hours on the dyno. Price will vary from shop to shop.

As for finally "Hearing" vtec kick in, I don't know where you heard that from. It's not going to sound any better/louder because of a vtec controller (but if for whatever reason I'm wrong on that, then it'd come to a shock to me). If you want to make your car sound more aggressive then you should go for an intake, headers, or exhaust. Welcome to the club, and happy modding!

If you need any help, pm me. I can help you look for parts and help ya out with things here and there.
