Vtec!

OK, I've owned a couple RX7's & 300Z's for the majority of my joy riding days... When my wife & I had our 4th child (total of 7 now ), I abandoned the 300ZX for a 2002 V8 Chevy Suburban (needed the space & LUV MY TRUCK).

Now I'm back in a manual 5 speed with the CL Unfortunatly, I've conformed so much that i'm noticing that I tend to shift between 2.5k & 4k at most.

From what i've read, the vtec doesn't kick in until over 5k... Is that correct? If so I guess i still don't know what its like to own a vtec

Anyhow is the vtec somewhat equivalent to a supercharger?

Don't worry about vtec, you wont really be able to feel vtec in an f22 or f23 powered CL. When you get into something with dual overhead cams and vtec, thats when you'll see the difference. Or turboing ur f series.

tell me about it, my friends K20 RSX can be heard far away in VTEC, and it sounds good to boot, as does my other friend's K24 Accord. for some reason though I deinately prefer the tone of my F22 over his K24 though

You need a piggy back vtec controller like the Apexi VAFC-II

Would it be worth it for me to invest in a VAFC-II? or is there something like it that would work better for turbo applications? cause i want vtec to engage sooner than it does to help hit full boost faster, but i dont wanna waste $$$ on stuff i dont really need

i think it's been made pretty clear that vtec is a joke on the f22/f23 engine. save your money

best way to set it up is on a dyno. do a run where it engages really early and the another engaging it late. find out where they overlap and that's where you set it.

what bout air fuel mixtures? like leaning it out a bit? bah, i'll do this once everything else is good. like my exhaust, tires, tuneup. i'm still smokin' even without this tune.

i can't see how engaging vtec earlier would help the turbo spool faster as it's the intake side that have extra lobes. the air gets in faster but it's same exhaust cycle, and that's what spins the turbo.

that you can kinda do that just with an a/f gauge, but yeah a dyno would make that easier too.
