Vtec?
Vtec?
this might be a dumb question, but;
what exactly is vtec?
what does it do?
at what rpm does it usually kick in?
why does it make the engine louder?
is there a controller or product to make it kick in earlier(sp)?
and is it worth it to make it kick in earlier?

Vtec is a system that changes from a low profile cam to a larger one. bigger can, more air in and exhaust out=more power. In the 2.2L the engagment point is 4000rpm. It is louder simply because more air is being pushed through. You can buy a vtec controller, for around 300 to change the engagement point. Is it worth the money, not in my opinion. But with a dyno and many other mods you would see more power.
oh and vtec stand for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control

thanks for the info. to me my engine doesn't all of a sudden get louder at around 4000 rpm. it seems to steadily build up but at around 6000-7000 rpm it gets much louder.

Lots of cool shit there
Apex makes a controller that enables the Vtec to kick in earlier, opinion the the board varies as to its usefullness. IMO any devise that empowers you to control your Vtec is golden. It will be included in my mod package.

V-AFC does alot more than just control vtec. The V-AFC has a user-definable, eight-point, adjustable fuel curve that can be set in 500 RPM increments. The range of fuel adjustment is +/- 50% at each of the user-defined setting points. The Fuel Adjustment function considers wide/narrow throttle and low/high camshaft settings, from which four different fuel maps are created (wide-low, wide-high, narrow-low, narrow-high). The integrated VTEC Controller adjusts the point at which the engine switches from the Lo to Hi cam during acceleration, as well as when the engine switches from the Hi to Lo cam during deceleration.
In case some wants my opinion on the vafc, I think its worth it only if you know what your doing. Keep in mind that it has to be adjusted and works in conjunction with a fuel pressure regulator. After proper tunning a vafc can yield some nice results. I have one and I think it was worth it.
