Vibration and shuddering during acceleration
Vibration and shuddering during acceleration
Anyone ever have this problem? I just recently purchased this car and I'm still learning all the ins and outs of them. It's a 97 with the 2.2 and a 5 speed and 86000 miles. I searched around the forum and didn't really see anything of interest on this. Only does this while accelerating. If I rev the engine it doesn't do it and while coasting and braking it doesn't do it either. Any thoughts about this? Thanks.
It's more like a shaking I guess. No rattling or anything strange sounding. If it is the axles, what would cause them to go bad and how much are they to replace. I'm new to this front wheel drive thing. I looked under there and I'm really confused now.

It could just be because they are old, you damaged them somehow or a CV boot is cracked and let all the grease out. If it just started making the vibrations you'll have about 500 miles before they completely go to hell (like mine did). Parts cost me about $120 for two complete axles (without the core it would be $250), and $70 for installation from Sam.
Thanks for all the advice. It was the axle on the drivers side. Pretty simple job after everything was said and done. Did notice a few other things of interest under there, what were they thinking when they designed the brakes on this thing. But it went smoothly and is running great now.

Sounds like an axle or a wheel bearing
