Varad Blue LED

Has anyone installed one of these? Is it just a matter of taking the door panel off and re-soldering the LED in place. I just got one off h-a.net from some guy for $6 bucks with shipping Oh is it a lot brighter than stock?

I'm not too sure what you are talking about, but if it is just an LED by itself, you can go to Radio Shack and get one for like $2. Thats what I did, and it took me like 20 minutes to do, and its very straight forward, just make sure to get the polarity of the led correct... the longer lead is the anode (positive).

he's talking about the one in the door on the drivers side that blinks. it's in the thing that says "SECURITY"

if you look directly at the drivers door, it's on the top left, near the glass.

Yes, it's pretty easy, i put in a blue led for mine. And it's really nice cause it's so BRIGHT! It could come with this little broad which gives it the power that it need. I tried putting the led in without the board, and it burnt out after a day. u don't need to take off the whole door, just one side of it, so u can reach in to unsrew one of the screws thats holding it down. Good luck on it..

Thanks for your help. I was going to just go to radio shack and get one but i heard a lot of people say the varad ones pretty much light up your whole interior. I wanted a super bright one so for six bucks i figured i might as well try. The guy has four blue ones left if anyone else wants one. Oh does this involve sodering?

yes, theres 2 little solder connections... if you feel you cant do it, bring it to radio shack and ask them for some help, I used to work there and they will most definatly help you out... just offer them some cash (which they cant take for helping) and they should solder it up for you free of charge.

Also, I forgot to mention... the brightness really depends on the resistor used, the one acura uses in there puts the voltage pretty low, so thats also a possible upgrade, just dont go above 2.5-3 volts cause you'll burn out the LED in no time (they actually 'pop' and the plastic breaks, kinda cool!) The guys at radio shack will be more than willing to help with that too.

Can you splice those LED's into various power wires so that for instance I could just mount one down near the floorboards that will light up there?

Or would that be more difficult?

Perhaps I could get the guys at Radio Shack to install a 200W strobe light so that when my car is locked it looks like a dance club inside. Then I could mount my fog machine in the ventilation system so that when my laser light show goes off when you open the door you'll be able to see the beams and avoid triggering the 500db siren and making your ears bleed for months. Do you think that they'll charge any extra for this setup?
