using coverter from speaker to amp with Stock Head unit

Hi, i've done a search and i've heard of people hooking up a LOC from their speakers but before the factory amp. I have a 99 acura cl, not the bose system, and 5 years ago, circuitcity installed a bass tube, and tapped the signals from the rear speakers and directly plugged it into the bass tube. it is an 8" kenwood sub. the speaker wires that hooks up to the tube, comes of from up top, right at the rear speakers itself. the wires are covered, but it seems as though the wires go to speakers, then from there, the wires come out and into the tube, but i can't tell seeing as how they're covered up with tape or something. I Hope you guys would know what CC did from the description i told you. i would assume that the wires were tapped after the factory amp, but i just want to confirm this. I've heard of peoplesaying that it should be tapped before the amp, if the wires were tapped after the amp, would i still use a LOC, or what else would i do to hook up an amp? Thanks.
