Guys I drove my CL through a large puddle on Wednesday and nearly hydrolocked the motor.
The car is running right now but it clicks and has a strange idle.
I'm scared the engine may be done for.
It still runs though![Shrug](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif)
I'm looking at 2G RL's just in case

Sorry to hear Greg, that's why I've been preaching about bypass valves for the last 8 years, best $40 I ever spent. Saved my motor in 3-4 foot deep water

Seeing that Greg has a 3.0, I think 3.2 or 3.5 swap is the only solution

the engine runs but it clicks, hydrolock is when the engine doesn't run anymore?
The dealership says I may have bent some connecting rods but wont be able to tell unless they "drop the pan".
This will cost at least $375 they say.
My mechanic says if the car is running - don't worry about it - if it aint broke dont fix it.
i'm just worried if i drive the car normally now with this clicking i can damage the car further?

^^^ umm yeah i dont think you hydrolocked your engine, i think you just ingested some water....
get a compression check done on all of the cylinders....this will help you determine whats going on....

^^^ I know a member who has done it....if i find that thread will post it on here....
but you dont need to swap unless you want to....
PS: I have never gotten a compression test and hence wont be able to answer how much it costs....

If you have no compression on a cylinder or more, you'd know, no?
I'm guessing he's worried that the valves are bent, but it shouldn't run decently smooth in that case, right?
I mean, the "tick" you're referring to is valve tick, maybe...and I've heard that all Hondas are famous for doing that.
Is your CEL lit up?

the CEL was blinking when it sucked up water, then it never came back on after we reset it. it's been fine, i just got worried that it the engine hydrolocked so i brought it into Acura.
Now i'm at the point where they charge you $125 to diagnose the car - and I either have to pay them that money and walk out with no repairs or sign on for them to pretty much charge me anything they deem "neccesary".
@ 120k and after having driven my car thru water the way i did... i'm weighing my options - and i'm scared now that their "lead mechanic" thinks that a repair may cost more than the car's value.
this is not their way of trying to sell me a new car so much as it is their way of potentially ripping me off for a bunch of unnecessary tune ups

Thanks Anil.
Dude, I'd take your funny idling car and hightail it out of there and see an independent mechanic or see if any of the techs do work on the side from home.
Reason I say that is that if the foreman told me that repairing the car is going to cost more than the car is worth BEFORE opening up the motor to see the extent of the damages you can pretty much guarantee he either wants you to buy a new car, or trade your car in for peanuts or BOTH.![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
in either case, your best interest is not in his heart.

i just got a call from a mechanic up in the bronx. they quoted my 2100 to swap in a motor. the check engine light came on and the CL overheated friday.
i had the car towed over there via AAA.
i need to make a decision.

oh forgot to mention they said that the codes read there is no compression. this shit makes me want to kill the acura dealership. nothing happened before i brought it over there, just noises. then the day that i leave the dealership with the car - it overheats.
should i dump another 2k into this car?
i don't know what to do.

I just messaged Paul. swapping a motor for another motor is a big deal - no?
i've got to imagine a motor costs around 500 bucks?
and labor? isn't it a big deal to swap the engine out?

I'm not saying that there isn't labor involved, just 2K seems like a lot to me

^^^ yeah for 2-3K people build motors....so swapping should be ~1000-1200....
Talk to Paul about building as well....he has been building motors for a while and he can definitely find out whats wrong and just replace those components....
