turbo

If I was to turbo my 2.3CL, what is the most PSI that the engine could safely handle? What are some reliable turbo names, with reasonable prices, on the market?

a bunch of guys on H-T.com claim 7-12PSI on stock internal F23's. I was really close to getting a DRAG kit for my 2.3, but pussed out and now I'm just selling my CL to get something a little faster. I couldn't get myself spend all that money and have to worry about frying this or that all the time.

Drag kits are around $2500.
Fmax is like $3500 but includes more shit.

What kind of stuff do you have to worry about frying? If you got like a 6 PSI turbo, would you have to worry about that kind of stuff?

FMAX has been bought out my Turbonetics (whose compressors they used anyway). It's really nice shit, and the kit comes with EVERYTHING you need. If you are gonna do it, might as well do it right.

If you blow something up, who cares. F23s only fetch like $500. Buy another one.

Your engine. The internal stuff isnt cheap to replace even if you dont completely ruin the engine. Most(if not all) of the kits come with enough stuff to run 6psi safely.

Basically you can count on the kit for 6psi, and for another grand (injectors, electronic fuel control, ignition, timing contol, tuning, etc) or so you can go up to around 10, safely. This is at least what I have found, Ive been researching turbo stuff on the f23 for a few months.

i have turboed the f23 **blew that up in a week**...i would not recomend going above 7psi...both fmax and drag are good kits...you will still have to buy a fuel pump...turbo cars NEED more fuel...
do more research before buying a turbo kit....
if you know nothing about turboing your car....you may want to consider another route (h22 or nitrous)

just my $0.02

thats how i thought for a while, but it's really not that simple unless you can completely drop it in yourself. Plus would you really have the balls to just drop another identical motor in and slap on the same turbo kit that blew your last one up.

Honestly like d98 said, I think before turboing any honda you better know what the hell your doing. I don't, so i'm just gettin a new car instead

Well, I would think that if you are knowledgeable enough to install the turbo kit yourself and tune it - that you would be able to swap an engine yourself. I'd also think you could figure out what went wrong the last time, and fix it. I guess this is not always the case.

Ooooo new car? STi?

well i could probably install a turbo kit myself with a little help from friends, but tuning it is just about impossible to do right yourself And I'm sure motor swaps aren't that hard, especially if it's the exact motor, but i don't exactly have a crane For me there was just way too much risk.

NEW car = 350Z or G35 coupe if all goes accordingly. I've gotta sell this thing first. As soon as I get it all back to stock I think it'll be a month or so. Gotta trick the insurance companies to think I'm the secondary driver tho, otherwise insurance will be insane for a 19 year old

I'm itchin for a turbo as well... next year I'll have the means to do it... not sure if I have the balls though since after the kit and install I won't have much money for if something goes wrong.
