Trouble starting when low on gas

I have noticed that my car cranks many more rotations before kicking over when I am low on gas (ie. 1/8 full)..........is this because of a poorly posistioned fuel pump? Has anyone else experienced this with a '98 3.0?

Yes, it happens all the time with my 97 3.0 I always know when Im low on fuel when it cranks longer. ITs funny cuz it does way before the LOW FUEL light even comes on. It doesnt seem like a big deal. I dont worry about it too much.
Just keep it full!

one time i was parked on a VERY steep san francisco hill, head down, my gas was nearly at E when i parked but it was fourth of july and ididn't think of it, after all was seen and done, i came back to start the car, it wouldn't start, had to try at least 3 more times before the engine got running, which i would think was running off fumes, i had the opportunity to make 3 shifts, one reverse, one drive, one more reverse, (the dickhead in front of me came pretty damn close to me, making it that much harder for me to get out), so then my last shift, i die out, i can't start it anymore, LUCKILY my last reverse gave me nearly a FEW CENTIMETERs of clearance to get me out, i was flooring my brake as i went down the hill and started up the car,

The same thing happens with my '97. When below 1/8th tank, I need to crank it over twice, then it starts.

Same here, but I think that if you leave the car in the ON position for a second or two more before you turn it over, the fule pump will pump enough fuel into the line to get rid of the additional cranks.

This happens to me all the time. Especially since I live on a hill. The hill I live on is slanted to the passenger side of the car and because of this my car doesnt turn on sometimes. So I just learned never to let my gas tank get to low!!!

I ahve the same problem on the 99 Cl 3.0 and last time i was in the dealer having my oil changed I mentioned it to the guy in the service department. He said that it is a common problem especiall when the needle drops below the 1/4 tank mark. He reccomended turning the key to the on position and waiting for the "little green flashing key indicator light" (he used the real name i just dont remember what it was) to stop flashing. He told me that this had nothing to do with the fuel system but it gave it ample time for everything to "start flowing." I tried this out and it seems to work...
