Transponder Keys
Ok,
So... I had only one set of keys for my 98 3.0CL --- Lost em in my move.
SO now i have a stationary car i can get into (have a true value hardware copy), but can't start.
What are my options, I haven't called the dealer yet...
I know they'll have to program the key - BUT -- the car is about 50 miles from the dealer.... and that'll cost a fortune in towing.
So, in my "hopeful world"..... I can call the dealer and get a key made. Then, someone will post the instructions on here of how to program it so i can take the key to it and program it...
Please help ---

i think you may be able to call your local lock smith and they can come and do it. most of them have transponder key blanks. as long as they can get in the car and turn on the electronics (which they should be able to do with a hardware store key <which i have too>), they plug a device into your diagnostics port and it will be able to program the key with the device. call them and see what they can do.
I got a transponder key at my work (Westlake Ace Hardware) and it was relatively cheap compared to what you might have to pay at the dealer (I think it was about $25). I have also heard locksmiths charge more than Westlake. So I'd probably try to go to a Westlake or a regular ace.
Damn, it only cost me $34.95 for a new master w/programing at Acura...
I used to think it was more, because of post I saw on here before, but it really doesn't cost that much for Genuine Acura.
Oh, that price was on February 6, 2006.
If you want to keep cost on towing down, get AAA Plus. Only cost $79 (I think) for a year membership and you get your first four services for free. With the PLUS membership, you get free towing up to 100 miles.
If you don't get the PLUS you get a small amount and then $3 a mile after that (I think thats the rate)...

If it's the remote transmitter, you can program it yourselves but, it's the transponder so you have to bring it (the key, not the car) to a dealer to have it programmed... bring with you the registration, VIN # and two types of picture identification.

$89 for 2 new keys, programmed. I can get into my car at least. Weird thing is i have to pull the key out of the ignition slightly to start it like its too long. OH well.
Now, I have a 2nd remote *somewhere* in storage.... but I found one from my '00 TL.... That won't work will it?
i tried the programming method, but it doesn't seem to take and the back of the remote is slightly diff. My CL ones had a round battery cover that sorta unscrewed, this one pops open.
