transmission question?
transmission question?
This probably sounds like a stupid question
, but what kind of driving causes damage to our transmissions? I have a 97 3.0, how high is to high before i let the transmission shift gears? Does it cause damage if you drop from 4th to 2nd gear?
Thanks

From my experience, regular day to day driving and passing people on the highway will kill your transmission (2 in 3 months for me), so you can't win. I can't imagine that manually controlling the shift will help.
Somebody mentioned something earlier about our torque converters being a possible cause - anybod yknow anything about this?

the 4th to 2nd gear drops put alot of stress on them. But basically, auto tranny's esp. these can't handle any aggresive driving.
Anyone know why Acura changed the 3.0 trannys from the '97 to '98? I remember reading that the shifting was more refined (more comfortable). Was this true or was it some sort of cover-up for a major problem?
I had some minor problems with my '97 tranny. I haven't had any shifting problems. The only problems I had were that I needed to replace both of my trans axle seals. The drivers side, two times and the pass side once. It was all covered under warranty at the time.
