Transmission Noise

I'm getting a loud humming/buzzing noise when I'm around 45mi/h. I think it's coming from the transmission but not sure. Any ideas on what's happening? What should I do? I do still have Acura warranty till March 2003 luckly. Would you guys recommend extending just the powertrain warranty or full?

A loud humming sound could be coming from one of your front bearings. Those baby's can get really loud when they go bad. I think there may have been a recall on them but I'm not sure. Anyway, that's usually were that type of sound comes from. Hope this helps.

I just took my car to the midas next door to my house and they said that the lower ball joint needs to be replaced. I wonder if this is the reason for the noise. I have full coverage warranty at acura so the ball joint should be covered. Plus there is a recall on the lower ball joint (NHTSA#99V069000). So there should be no problems on that matter. How would I know if my tranny is failing anyways?

That's what I meant by front bearings, sorry. The humming can get REALLY loud especially on the highway.

The thing is that I still suspect that the noise is coming from the transmission because it only occurs around 45mi/h and when I switch to D3 on the automatic transmission the noise isn't there anymore. I'm guessing if the ball joint was the culprit it would make noise no matter what gear and it would be a constant buzz/hum. Highway driving is fine, no noise.
