Transmission blues...

Bad news everybody, my differential is bad in my '98 2.3. People have been telling me to just replace the whole tranny. I found one for a '97 2.2 for about $750. Is this gonna fit in my '98? And is this a good deal? And will an accord tranny work?

This is just an opinion but I would be very reticent to buy the used transmission as there is no way of knowing what condition it is in. This especially would be a concern to me because I believe even the first generation transmissions are prone to major problems.

Last month I spent $1400 to overhaul the piece of crap that came in my 1998 3.0 CL. Although, at least for me, I would rather spend $1400 and have a warranty and some degree of confidence in its reliability than spend $750.00 and not know what to expect.

While on the subject, the transmission in my CL, even when brand new, left a lot to be desired. It has always had a very annoying pause in response from the time I give it throttle to the to the time I feel the car responding. This poor performance, all the reported failures in both first and second gen models, and the $1400 failure at less than 100K miles, definetly made this the last Honda product that will grace my driveway.

Reason number 1 as to why I bought an extended warranty.

Get a warranted tranny for your car, pay the extra cash for peace of mind. I'd bitch like hell about it though to Honda, especially if you have low miles on it, even less than 100K, but get one this time with a warranty.

You can get a brand new tranny here for $677.

I think the torque converter is $370.
