Transmission Advice
My very well maintained 1997 3.0CL with 60k miles needs a new transmission. The Ann Arbor, MI dealership has indicated that they will try to get Acura to foot the bill, which they estimate will be $6k. Has anyone been successful in getting Acura to pay for transmission repairs/replacements? Or had any experience with the Ann Arbor, MI or Troy, MI dealerships? Any advice?
Sorry for yet another transmission post, but y'all are the experts.
Thanks.
Jennifer

I had mine replaced but was under warranty 2x's. 6K seems a little extreme but if they can get acura to foot the bill you are in luck. You can find rebuilt tranny's around for cheaper if it is going to comeo ut of your pocket

whatever you do DONT pay $6k. That is at least 2x as much as you should be paying. In reality you should be able to rebuild a tranny for about 1500-2000 at a tranny shop. Do not take your car to the dealer for major fixes. You'll get raped. However if acura will foot the bill by all means have them foot the bill!

The dealer near me quoted anywhere from $3-4Gs for a "new" (actually factory rebuilt or something) transmission. They claimed that the trannies aren't an issue on our cars. Right. Needless ot say, they were completely unwilling to help.
One thing to know - the ultimate decision on whether or not Acura is going to pay to fix it comes down to the individual dealership - Acura North America doesn't really get involved.

Hey if your going to get your tranny rebuilt, go ahead and buy a shift kit, and lower your gear ratios, if you wanna make it faster. A shift kit changes gears like in race cars, for autos. Basically it just changes gears faster for you, instead of that lil delay we have due to the way it was set up (econimcal shit). And if you lower your gear ratios, again, that will eat more gas too, but just wanted to inform you if case your a race freak too, hehe

The Troy, MI Acura dealership gave me an estimate today of $5.1k and as much as said not to bring it to them since "we don't have a good transmission technician". He also said he had not seen any CL or TL transmission failures?!?! Still waiting on Acura (via the AA dealership). In the meantime, I called two transmission shops and both refused when I told them the make/model. I'll make more calls tomorrow, but any referrals would be appreciated.
Also, any thoughts on selling it "as is"? How dumb would that be? The car is super clean, unmodified, and up til now has been perfect.
Thanks.
