Trans flushed today
So, for peace of mind at 105K, I got my transmission/torque convertor flushed today at a nearby Acura dealer. They threw in a wash/vacuum too. So I stop off on the way home for gas, and somebody asks what year my CL is ('99), and says how beautiful it looks! Whattya know!

no a flush is a complete fluid change with a machine checking pressure.. usually disturbs settled fragments and gets them stuck in the valve bodies, seasing them and causing poor lubrication for the clutch packs and hytro pump.

I've always heard flushing is better than drain (from auto mechanics class and TV) because you are removing all of the fluid AND debris. When you do just a drain, you're leaving behind a lot of old fluid and junk behind, think that's good? The only reason why a lot of places don't do it is because the equipment is more expensive.

Well, the dealer told me that the machine they use does not cause debris to clog the transmission, which is consistent with what an independent mechanic told me. Although the independent guy said some machines could cause this problem. The Acura machine also flushes out the torque convertor.
My transmission was shifting beautifully before, still is, and if it were to now go south, it'd be a pretty good indication that the flush was the problem. This car however has had meticulous maintenance throughout it's whole life...

Peace, Love & Acura
The big thing here is that if you have a problem with your transmission, you don't want to flush. the flush will take away the GRIT that is letting the clutch packs work... But, if your transmission is up to date with maintenance and has no prior shift issues... a flush is fine. My bros out at the honda place where I had my transmission replaced do drain and fill... and it works fine... Although my wife's Accord, which has never had transmission problems was flushed in November... and it has had no problems at all since then. So I think it is just a matter of whether or not your tranmissin is in good shape. If it is in good shape... flush that motha, if it is jacked up... drain and fill. BUT the safest route for any transmission good shape or not is to drain and fill.
