Tranny Drain
Tranny Drain
How much do you guys usually pay for this? NOT FLUSH (I heard flushing was dumb for many reasons, I dont wannna get into that) Is there any places that have honda atf other then the dealer or do I have to bring the honda atf.
I bring it to "Trung Auto" on Tully and Parrott for those of you in San Jose its a great place good people. Drive it up to the back walk up to the desk tell em what ou want done and bring it to the garage. The guys do it right before your eyes so there's no thought of you being scammed for old fluids or anything of the sort. I do think i feel it shift smoother but then it may just be in my mind i drive hard and flush all the time.
they do use Honda ATF if they currenty have it. I've driven like a total lunatic for the past 9k miles im still on my stock tranny i flush like every 2 months sometimes even earlier.
i ment to say DRAIN not flush i never flushed before

ya for now on im just going to DRAIN every 6 months. Starting now! Because I still think I have dextron 3 in mine
soo imma make an appointment at the dealership. Soo a drain should be around 20-60? I dont have to say anything about honda atf at acura righT? lol It only takes 25min?
I checked my fluid and its still a nice color but i think maybe the only reason the dextron 3 is doing 1/2 decent is because of the tranny cooler.

newbie here. I want to get my trans fluid drained. What type of fluid should i replace it with and how often should i replace the fluid. I've driven the thing for 20,000 miles with out changing it. Why would it be bad to flush a trans? also i found a guy who is going to do it for 80. should I have him drain the converter too? sorry if i'm a bit off on the name of the part that stills hold oil when you drain it. correct me if i'm wrong
You should only flush the trans fluid if your having problems.
I got my fluid changed for the first time approx. 40K miles after my new tranny. It cost about $30 at a local honda/acura shop.

Nooibe here...just bought a 99 with 56k. I am sighing a lot now over all the tranny deaths. Jeezzz. Just lost my job and needed something reliable. I want to get 150k out of this one.
I'm heading to the mechanic today to talk about a cooler, but I will try to get some questions answered first.
1. Will the install of a cooler affect the warranty? (I bought the extended to 100k mi)<<- Acura question
2. If the clutch packs are failing, how clear does it seem to be that it is a heat issue? There seems to be some consensus on here that it is heat and there seems to be a ot of coolers going in.
3. If it is a heat issues, is anyone noticing scorched or burned fluid? I mean, the transmission is a sealed system. If tranny fluid is getting 'dirty' there's a different issue right?
4. Does anyone have any idea (from Acura I guess or Consumer Reports or someth9ing) how many overall tranny's are failing? Could ther be a class action here?

So i called acura...56.00 to drain and 125.00 to flush
I told the guy I want a drain because I tihnk i have dextron 3 in there now and he's like blah blah its better to flush it all out. drain changes 5 quarts and flush chages all 12-14? err i dunno what to do he said drain can make it worse and he doesn't recommend mixing 2 different kind of fluids...

Disagree on the opinion that tranny should be flushed only if problems are there.
Tranny should be flushed (not just drained) regularly, every year or 20-30k miles.
That would get rid of most of build up before it is too late or too dangerous to do so.
Regular tranny flushes may actually get your tranny to outlast the engine many times over (ovcourse factor in driving habits, conditions, temperatures, load, etc.).
It is also true, that if your tranny has over 100k on it and/or has been to hell and back, you should not do flush, but only drain, since the flush may break away too much gunk and cause tranny to fail permanently soon after flushing.

i did the drain through Big O Tires and it cost me 54 bucks to do a triple flush, drain 2 times and then fill and also added some prolong too, which ran me about 15 bucks or so, cant remember but i know when it was done, OH BABY did it run smoother
when you doa flush do it about 2-3 times a year, i dont need one yet cause i just got the tranny done recently so.... but i would definately get the prolong it helps out SOOOOO much and makes the tranny shift and last longer i think, and i think it extended my lifetime on the tranny and gave me about 5 or 6 months more before it crapped out on me
