tranny cooler temperature

Here we go : I finish installing the gauge trans. temp 2 month ago.

Sorry I don't have the temp before the tranny cooler.

highway = min : 100F max : 125F
city = min : 125F max : 165F (traffic)

BTW, the gauge wasn't working because we need to be ground to the body. After that everything went ok.

Great job. Where did you mount your gauge at? Where does the temperature sensor monitor the fluid temp at (pre-cooler, post-cooler)?

I had the same problem with mine....didn't ground it. I would have to look again but I belive I run 160-180 around town. Haven't done any real highway driving so.... but I know the hottest its ever got was 210 and that was sitting in dead stop traffic at the beach.

Less than 175F (80C). Every 20F above that, you basically cut the tranny life expectancy in half.

I assume there's a temperature that would be too low, too.
Any idea on what's too cold?

I meant to say ATF life instead of tranny life.

Most manufactures recommend an operating temperature of 70C (~160F) to 80C (~175F). It's the temperature of the fluid once it reaches optimum viscosity you are looking for. I don't recall Honda publicly releasing data sheets on Honda Z-1 ATF. All the independent VOA I seen on Z-1 only included the viscosity at 210F. So at least are you are in the 70C to 80C range pre-cooled, you should be good to go.
