Tranny!
Tranny!
I have tried to find a DIY or a writeup on changing your own transmission fluid, but can't seem to find one. Have any of you guys done it yourself or have a link to a nice writeup? I think im going to drive it up on stands in the front, and jack up the back. Then take off the bottom and completely drain... Refill with ATF adn Seafoam Transmission Treatment; drive about 10 miles and drain again.
From there I would assume I should change the filter (is there a ATF filter on our cars?) Then fill back up with Honda ATF. Does this sound about right? I have 160,000 miles on my car (97) and if I take it somewhere to have it flushed or drained, they dont actually open up the tranny and change the filter.
I dont know im not an expert thats why I need some
from you guys.
Thanks,

There is not a servicable filter in our tranny. You can put an inline filter as an option.
You also can't open the transmission as simple as other manufactuers.
If you want a transmission flush, here are some popular options:
Option #1
1. Drain ATF through ATF Drain plug
2. Fill through ATF Fill Plug
3. Drive around the block
4. Repeat 2 or 3 more times
Option #2.
1. Drain ATF through ATF Drain plug
2. Fill through ATF Fill Plug
3. Remove ATF return line from cooler.
4. Attach a separate hose to the cooler which leads to a bucket.
5. Turn on engine and fill ATF at same rate as it drains. (this may require help).
6. Once the fluid has changed color, connect everything back together.

So our tranny as I invision it does not have a series of bolts underneath like others I have seen? But it does have a drain bolt?
Also, what is the recomended amount of fluid for the 97?

Yep. There's a drain bolt on the bottom of the tranny. It looks like square that you can stick a 1/2" racket into. There's a fill bolt on top of the transmission, which is accessible from the engine bay.
Drain&Fill..........3.1 quarts
Overhaul Fill..........7.5 quarts

There's a drain bolt underneath, and a fill bolt on top of the tranny that says ATF, on the 3.0 the fill bolt is a 17 mm
