TOTALED CL.. back from the grave.. 56k beware, picture intensive
As the title says, my 97 3.0CL was "totaled" on 3/3/09 in NYC.
I was driving on 23rd Street only 3 blocks from my GF's place, cab in front of me stops short, I come to a complete stop 3 ft behind him no problems (didn't even have to brake that hard), Ford Explorer w/ a brush guard behind me doesn't see me slow down at all and rams into me. I get pushed into the cab in front of me. It was definitely a setup.. as soon as I realized what happened, I get out of the car and an EMT is standing in front of me. He tries to scurry me off into the ambulance, but I went to the Explorer first to take down his plate. No airbag deployment, but it seemed like a pretty decent hit to me. Here's what the car looked like after the hit.
Worst part is I had just re-registered my car and decided to get new license plates because mine were peeling only 36 hrs before this happened. Never got into an accident ever and I was just telling my dad my car insurance is going to go down because I had just turned 25. There goes that.. God loves me. Now my new front plate looks like its been through a garbage compactor.
Was looking for other cars, about a month ago I was going to buy an E36 M3 but it had sold before I got to go see it. I also tried to buy an M Roadster but the guy sold it to a guy who outbid me by $100. He agreed to my price too.. which was over his asking price. Wackness. I was then forced to keep the CL and fix it.
This is what "$4200 worth of damage" looks like. In the end I spent $3000 to fix it. $600 more than what I got from the insurance company after I bought it back.

Notice all the bird shit.. That was an aerial assault after the car was already smashed up. Talk about pouring salt on an open wound.
Here's what it looks like after it was fixed:

36 hour old license plate ruined.. and yes, I know.. I'm going to repaint my wiper arms hahaha

Front bumper still has a few scratches, but I didn't want to spend anymore than I had to to fix the CL. Here's what it looks like right now.
Oh, if you want an extra 20 horses, you might want to get yourself one of these...

edison. i had my front plate removed before and used to have tint and red blinkers... but cops in metuchen are assholes and cops down south near the beaches too. got pulled over for HID's back in '02 also. they thought they were illegal.. i'd get fix-it tickets all the time and gave up the war. i'm really considering getting rid of the front plate now again that its smashed up and the front bumper/lip need repainting. we'll see. car's gonna be with me forever now that i fixed her

thanks guys.
my mentality behind fixing it was not wanting to finance a new car, i'm going to be moving to NYC in the next few months. i also didn't want to rush buying a used car. with the money i would have got, i know i wouldn't have gotten a better maintained car for a commuter nor one that looks any better than what i have. i had already put a lot of aftermarket parts into the car. if i bought something else, i know it would just be the money pit all over again. granted i could have taken out my car audio goodies, but other than that, the rims, the ww lip, lighting, the suspension work, would have all went to the "vultures" on the forums probably lol.
i really did want to buy something else, i've had the CL since '01. i found some cars i would have rather have had as daily's, but the deals fell through so i had no other option but to fix the CL. i needed to find a car asap or i'd not have the option to get her back from my insurance company anymore. i've had it for so long.. been a member here just as long. so now, it will forever be my beater.
i guess i wouldn't have been so enthusiastic about keeping it, till i realized that i could buy some rsx parts for decent prices and swap them into my CL.
i'm going to try to come out to the meet. hopefully i'll have repainted my rims and mounted new tires by friday. guess it depends on the weather.
