Tire Leaking Problem, suggestions?

Hey guys,
I've been meaning to ask about this.
I noticed that our right rear tire has been slowly leaking air.

It takes about a few days up to a week to drop from
30psi to 10psi. Then it looks pretty flat.

These are michelin tires on stock 2.3cl rims.

How much will it cost to check the leak and patch it?
Is it a patch or seal job?

And is this only a temporary solution or semi-permanent?

The tread is still pretty good, so i prefer not to buy a new tire. Aside from that, I prefer not to drive with one brand new tire and three old ones.

Your input/advice is always appreciated.
Thanks.

a seal job is gonna be semi-permanent....no one will guarantee their work for that...but, it should cost around $15-25 or so. My left rear tire had a screw in it, and it kep deflating. I couldn't see the screw because it was on the inner part of the tire. just go get a seal

it shouldnt cost you more than 15 bucks man. at big o tires out here and goodyear, they charge 12.50 to repair a tire. take it to them and get it repaired. dont buy a new tire from they cause they will try to sell you one i know when i worked there i did the same thing, i also got commision on tires so... but repair the tire you rpobably got a nail or skrew in it and they will dip it in the dunk tank and see where the leak is coming from. they will then just put a patch on it and youll be on your way, shouldnt take more than an hour if their busy. good luck

Hey thanks guys.

I didn't see any nails or screws.

The right side has been hitting some really bad potholes.

Would it be possible that there is a leak along the sides of the tire, where the edge meets the rim?

I'll look closer tonight to check for nails or screws.

Also, would tires places like Pepboys be any good?

I'm not sure where a reliable place is around Jersey City.

My trusted mechanic is in central jersey.... so i may trek down
there since i have to be there anyway tomorrow.

Thanks.

If at all possible, take the wheel off and do a thorough inspection. Pour water on it and see if air bubbles come out anywhere. If not, it could be your valve stem. The little needle is tighten-able and may have come loose with alot of air hose visits and use.

interesting point.

can i tighten the valve stem needle myself?

or should i just throw away $15-25 to make
sure it's fixed properly?

i'll ask the mechanics about the valve stem.

thanks.

If there's a nail in the tire, I plug it myself with a DIY kit from the parts store. It's the same stuff shops use (my buddy that's a tech at a Lincoln dealership also uses the plugs).

Keep in mind that you will lose the tire's speed rating after it's patched/plugged. Then again, I've done numerous autoxes on patched tires with no problems, although the speeds were low.

The valve on my CL's front tire was bad so I had a shop fix it.

There are lots of places in Newark that fix tires, but generally, when anybody fixes it for you, it's either gonna hold air or it's not. If it's holding air when you leave the shop and it doesn't leak anything in a few days, you're golden.

I had a similar problem with almost new tires. It was actually leaking at the balancing weight. There were also some other spots next to the rim. I took it to my friends shop and he took the tire off and just cleaned the rim and the inside of the tire, so far hasn't gone flat and its been about 2 weeks.
