Timing Belt Change Interval for 1997 3.0 CL

Hi all! Newbie here to this forum. Got a question about timing belt change interval. I inherited a 1997 3.0CL from my sister and it has 71K miles. She said the original timing belt has never been changed out. The manual says it needs to be changed at 105K or 7 years under normal driving conditions. Well, this belt is riding on 10 years already! Should I change it out now, or can I wait till it gets closer to 105K? I read the belt can break and ruin the whole engine. Thanks for your inputs.

You can make it to 105K with that belt, I changed mine at 60 cuz I'm anal and will be changing it again soon since I'm at 105K but it all depends on how much u wanna spend on doing it. Timing belt labor isn't cheap unless u do it yourself

yea, i think honda recommends 60-80k for the timing belts, remember the REAL reason for changing the timing belt at that mark isn't b/c of the belt but b/c of the tensioner and water pump!

however, for the rubber, 10years is a snapped belt waiting to happen! age is a pretty important reason to change the belt.

I called the Acura dealer today and they said it will be about $950 to change the timing belt, and close to $1500 to include the water pump. Does that amount sound about right?

that sounds way too much... I got a quote from a honda dealer for a 2.3 SOHC and it was $430 timing belt, water pump, and car rental. I'm thinking it should be a little more since your a V6, but not more than double. Local honda websites usually have service coupons for timing belts. im in AZ by the way if that matters.

Unfortunately yes that's about right, but like unlewser said, honda dealer's labor is usually cheaper
