Think I've found the right CL, but would like opinions on price?
Hey thanks everyone who helped me out on my previous thread. I'm thinking seriously about picking up a 97 3.0 , but it is a automatic. I asked about the 2.2, and everyone responded about how the automatic tranny is a problem. Well, does it apply to the 3.0 as well? Any other problems that the 3.0 has? The seller wants 12,000 for it, it has 54k miles on it, what do you all think? Please let me know, I'm going to see it on tuesday, and possibly buy it the same day. Oh and if you have any tips on used car buying, please fire away!!! Thanks!!

I do NOT believe in the tranny situation.. Some have it some dont (2.2, 2.3 & 3.0)... Alot of folks race so they tend to blow motors & trannies here....
a 97 3.o at $12k seems high for me... is taht a dealer price?! I would think my 98 3.0 goes for that so i would offer like $10k... thats just me though! What condition is it?! I guess your decision must come from your preferences as top what you are getting for your $$$... GOOD LUCK!

I paid 14k at a dealer for my 97 2.2CL a few months ago but it only had 37k miles.
Make sure the widows work good before you buy it is an expensive repair.

To check to see if the tranny is going bad, test drive it when the engine is cold. And if its from a dealer, get a powertrain warrenty.
12K is probabaly the absolute most I would pay for that car, but you should be able to get it for lower. Its a premium right?

12k sounds about right for a 3.0 premium (with Bose stereo + heated seats + xtras), but if it aint premium, i wouldn't shell out that much.

That price seems a little high. I paid $12.5K on Sat for my 98 3.0 Premium with 61K miles. That's with a 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty. My tranny shifts firm once in a while, but for the most part it's fine. But the tranny always seems to be in too high of a gear when I need to be in a lower one.

I push my 2.2 to its limit everyday...tranny is going a bit...but not bad...i bought it for 15.5k over 2 yrs ago with 36 thousand miles...and a 100 thousand warranty bumper to bumper.

Hey thanks for the info!!! I was thinking about starting at 10k and working to about 11k. It is a premium, with the heated seats, Bose stereo. Its also been garaged all of its life. This is private party sale. If the price goes above 11k, I'll probably just walk away. What would all of you say would be the fairest price?

I think thats a pretty good price. I got my 99 2.3 for 17,300. It only had 20k on it. Plus i got 100 powert warr and bumper to bumper plus 160 pt inspection. Its a great car. I think if you get it for 11 that will be a great price but i still dont think 12 is asking too much
