Is there anything specific I should look out for when buying an used CL? Common problems, etc..

 

3.0- tranny
2.2/2.3 5pd- clutch

hrmm...since we share alot of issues with Accords I'd advise also posting this kind of question on the accord forums, they'd have some good insight. CV boots/joints seem to be something to check, definitely window regulators, and i guess the rest would be typical things you'd check for when buying a used car....

 

Fot the auto tranny, test drive the car when its cold. That's when most of the problem occurs with the tranny. Be specific about driving the car cold and check to make sure it is when u test drive it.

 

3.0- Tranny and Cv Joints/Axels seem to be a common problem.

 

Check for the recalls on the CL. They're usually on the '97 models (i.e.: ball joint, EGR valve, ignition switch). I recommend getting an extended warranty up to 100K. This should help cover anything that may go wrong.

 

Where did you find the egr valve recall? I didn't find a record on it at nhtsa.

 

I received a recall notice from Acura. It's not specifically mentioned in the recall notice, but those who've had the work done report that the EGR valve gets replaced.

definatly check the window switches, they have a tendency to be very slow. Again the CV boots, mine just came unbanded-but no damge done. The only other problem i have ever had is that my Climate control blower was making a buzzing sound, so it got replaced underwarranty-hasnt happend since.

Do get the extended warranty unless you are going to mod the hell out of it.

 

ahhhhhh!!!!!!! i just rolled over to 86K and i think my trannys not doin to well...whats the cheapest place i can get an extended warranty from!?!?

 

The 97 CL had a Ball Joint re-call?
Can you fill me in on this?
2.2 or 3.0? or both?
I'm the 2nd owner and do not know if it was done or not.
I think I'm having problems with mine.

 

DO you get a loud humming sound coming from your wheels when your driving. If so, thats your ball joint. It can get really loud when its bad.

 

yo! get some silicone lub spray from local pep,auto-zone,store for those sticky window's i know it doesn't solve the problem but it damn sure works.roll windows down and spray in the crack by the side mirrors. windows get a little foggy just clean with glass cleaner i spray mine once a month no problems. Crush they ass!!!

 

That's not true....when your ball joints go...you will hear squeaking over bumps and grinding like you have no break pads left when you come to a stop..also when making turns you will hear a metalic grinding .... i know from experience my whole wheel fell off going to the beach.

I bought a 97 3.0 in the year 2000 and to this day im bout to switch my tranny for the second time. I wounder is this is a common problem, we should all write a letter to Acura and see if we can do something about this. What does everyone think???????

 

The recall is on the 97-98 CL Manufactured between 04/1997-09/1997 call Acura with your VIN number to see if it needs to be done.
