Thanks (I'm a "newbie")
Just wanted to say thanks to anyone who posted how to install an intake, and all the feedback people wrote.
I accidentally logged onto this site surfin the web.
I installed an AEM short ram (blue if that matters).
I was first sold on the idea from reading the writeups, (more MPG and better performance), that's a no-brainer!!
People also added it's easy to install,
so..... so to speak, if it wasn't for you guys, I wouldn't have done it, and right now I figure anyone who doesn't have an intake is crazy!!!
I'm not planning on modding my car out or anything, although I can see how it could be addicting. I have also read that to hook up a CL (I drive a '98), it's bocu bucks, which I don't have, at the same time, if there was a forseeable way for me to be in a 13 second CL, I'd be all over it, but it sounds like I could buy another car for the cost.
Anyways, I got it for $105 on Fox-performance, I installed it pretty quick, partly in the dark, as the lights in the Autozone lot went out, and I had no flashlight.
It's truley easy, although I guess CAI's and v2's have a few more steps.
Had I gone by the instructions, I would have never attempted it, they use all these terms I don't know and confused the hell out of me, but I remembered the threads I read, and took a look at it, and went at it anyways.
The instructions should say
correct me if I'm wrong though)
take out battery, unbolt the 2 air box bolts, unscrew the hose clamp attaching the airbox to the engine, and take it out.
next, connect the 2 hoses, put on the hose clamps, (where they obviously go), connect the filter, and drive, (after letting it idle for 10 minutes)
disconnecting the battery resets the ECU (I think), and letting it idle allows it to reset itself.
DONE!!
And believe me I know little about this stuff (that may be obvious??)
and if anyone wants to know, the v-tec now kicks in like a 2 stroke powerband on a dirtbike, the throttle response is way better, it feels a bit quicker, although the true acid test is the 1/4 mile (my best stock was 15.8), and if you like, when the v-tec kicks in, it's pretty loud (I was surprised).
but it's way more fun feeling, and I guess I'll be saving gas $$, which will pay for itself, and I've been told, although opinions vary, that it's better for the car, since it breathes better.
Anyways, thanks again, I appreciate everyone who took the time to explain this stuff.
