Tail light and interior dash light fuse keeps blowing

Apparently someone had a more powerful fuse which caused all of my wiring to melt... so $1300 later, I'm left with the 15A fuse that controls my gauge cluster and tail lights still blowing. It lasted for a few hours after I got my car back with the wiring redone, but now it's just blowing as soon as you put the fuse in.

I've done a search and have seen similar problems, but no solutions. Has anyone solved this yet? I'm assuming the other people have since it's a pretty major problem. Please help!

Yea I'm thinking a short somewhere too. But it's tough to tell where it would be though, since the car is pretty much 100% bone stock.

Also check the tail light bulb sockets, I had water in mine, that made the fuse and bulbs keep blowing. other than that it has to be a short.

if it has an aftermarket radio check the orange wire and the orange with black stripe wire comming from the back of the head unit going to the harness adapter. alot of even more recent models of aftermarket radio's dont have the dim function and the wire is just left layin around in the console then it grounds out and bam youve got a serious mess. eather way check behind the radio even if you have a stock deck cause that wire could be chafing against the frame of the dash. if this is the cause you have to post on here that i am the man... or i will break your hips.j/k

Do you have an aftermarket stereo?

I still have the stock one in, but I guess it's possible the person before me could have removed their aftermarket one and put the stock one back in...

These orange wires are part of the main stereo harness?

im pretty sure i had the same problem. I think it was caused by aftermarket radio. After replacing the fuses for a week straight just went away by itself. Weird.

those orange wires are usually on aftermarket radio harness's

I got a big box of fuses and I'd gladly replace them if it would just work for a LITTLE while... unfortunately the fuses are pretty much blowing right when I turn the lights on

Ok apparently the problem was in the drivers side visor there was a short?

We'll see if this fixes the problem. If nothing else, it's something to check for others with the same problem.

So how did you figure out it was in the visor? AHHH oh RL AWD commercial.... SWEET. Was there a burn mark or a smell? Just curious.

Well im not sure exactly where the short was but I noticed a slight discoloration in the visor light... So I just tried unplugging it, and noticed that the fuse wasn't blowing anymore. I guess we'll see if that was the true cause, but I drove it around for about an hour last night and still no problems... knock on wood!

Same issues

I have a '98 3.0 CL that keeps blowing the small light 15A fuse. No interior dash lights/tail lights etc...it started happening this last spring, it's a winter beater. I didn't need to address it until now, or until the snow flies.

My car has the stock stereo in it. I disconnected the wires for the vanity mirrors. Checked the tail light bulbs, replaced one due to corrosion in the socket. It works now. Might it be a bulb in front even though, they work?

What else might I do? Does anyone know exactly what is connected to that fuse that I'm not thinking of?
