Sunroof!!!

Has anyone here custimized their sunroof? I want to make the sunroof on my car open out on top of the car. I think that it would make it look really sporty. It would be like the sunroof on the Integras which can tilt up, but then when you open it, the glass slides up on top of the car. I don't know why Acura didn't make the sunroof for the CL's open out on top of the car. Has anyone done this to their car??? If so send pic's!!!

I like how it tucks in to the roof a lot better than how the integras slid on top. I think it looks like crap drivin down the road with a pice of glass hangin off the back of the roof.

I have to agree Why would you want to try and make your car look ugly. It is much better looking when the sunroof tucks into the roof

The reason why Acura used the slide out moonroof is due to the fact that the roof of the Integra is too short. The actuator and motor for the moonroof require more room beyond that of the glass.

Co-incidentally, the same manufacturer was chosen by Saturn for the moonroof on the Saturn SL Coupe.

I'm not a fan of the popout sunroof either. Not sure how it would look on the CL. Looks ok on the Integra.

I think that both the 1st and 2nd Gen Cls would look nice as Targa tops.

I think the first gen CL would look GREAT as a convertible. Just look at the Camry Solara--it looks quite a bit like a CL from many angles, and looks most comfortable with the top down. Since our CL has even classier lines, I think it would make a great drop-top!

Welcome to the club! I can make a ballpark guess at how much it would cost to turn a CL into a convertible, based on the fact that when I used to drive a Saturn coupe there was a company that offered to turn THAT into a drop-top. I think it ran about $5K, and that was ten years ago.

My boyfriend and I just got back from a cross-country road trip and his car has the moonroof that slides up over the car like the Integras. Although it does make a dramatic effect, it proved to be a major pain in the butt in terms of how much noise it made on the open road. I dunno, I suppose it's a matter of preference if you like the look and are willing to deal with that little drawback. I'm not sure, though, since you're wanting to have one customized, I don't know what other side effects could surface as a result of this. Anyhow, keep us all posted

If I can find out some price estimates on that sort of major customization, I wouldn't mind being the first to own a one of a kind. If anybody happens to see any names of companies that'd do it, drop me a line.

I want to convert my car to be like that hardtop lexus convertible that you push a button and it retracts for you and goes into the trunk. How much do you think THAT would cost?

BTW are we being serious about this?

My uneducated guess at an automatic folding hardtop--$15K.

Okay I think that you guys are getting a little bit out of hand with making them into convertibles. I only had the idea of making the sunroof openning out on top of the car, not turning them into a convertible. I take my idea back now because I didn't know that it had draw backs. I didn't know that it made a lot of noise when you open them. I guess I'll just keep it the same. As for those of you that want to make them into convertibles, go for it if you have the money, but I wouldn't dare do that to my car!

Hey, what is money if not the ultimate renewable resource? I'm being serious about looking into estimates to make a soft-top. It'd take me about a year to get the money, and about 3 months for the shop to make it (a guess), but it could be done.

I first heard about a company doing aftermarket convertible conversions about eight years ago when I was on a board a lot like this one for Saturn owners! Unfortunately I have long since forsaken that ruined brand, and I don't remember the company that did the mods. I did some quick searching on the net but didn't turn up anything (except a lot of Saturn owners on bulletin boards who are interested in aftermarket conversions). Sorry!

Yeah, glad you checked out and found out about some of the drawbacks prior to plopping the money down on the table to get one of those sunroofs. It's probably better that you just kept your car the way it is and put your cash towards other uses
