Steering rack

So last night i was out in my car and i started turning my wheel back and forth real fast. There was a clicking noise. I kind of figured it was always my steering rack cuz freeway rides suck ass. So much slop, but i was trying to pawn it off on the shocks.

Would it be the best way to go? rebuild the existing steering rack, buying a whole rack from a junkyard, or buying a brand new rack? Im kind of looking for the cheapest way to go about this.

As well, if anyone has any experience in replaceing this, how hard is it? What all would be involved?

it could be the CV joint. does it click when making a turn while driving?

Yeah, i know i have to fix my cv joints. But that is not the cause. I just had a guy that i work with look at my car and he said its more than likely your rack. Which is what i have been thinking forever.

On the freeway its hard to keep the car in a straight line moreso on uneven parts. On the roads any bump or uneven part pulls the car in any given direction.

This is my issue, is it worth spending about a grand to fix all these issues (shocks,cv's/axels,alignment, rack) or just get rid of it? I mean i only have 56k thousand miles so thats making me lean towards fixing it. But then i dont have the grand to fix it right now.

You could change out the axles yourself correct? If you are 100% sure on what it is you need, give me the list of parts, and i'll get you a quote for them. I got hook ups on parts and can help you out. I have a friend that owns an autostore and he beats everyone's prices. And if you want it straight from the dealer, I get 10-20% off.

Yeah, i can do axels myself. Thats actually my main focus right now cuz both boots are ripped. But i still need to replace my rack and im just trying to decide if i really want to try that myself, or just have someone do it.

So i need 2 axels and a rack. I found a rack on ebay for 50 bucks shipped. Its off an 94 accord, but the boots are ripped on it and im not sure if that would be a step in the right direction. i found a rebuilt rack on the internet for 214. That is the cheapest i have found.

by taking out the power steering. Turning at stops and slow speed will be a bitch, but at faster speeds, it will be sharp
