starting problem
starting problem
i have this problem where everytime i start my car it makes that noise when lets say ur car is already on and u turn the key. i figured it's either my starter going out on me or it's a belt slipping. anyone know what it possibly could be??
Does the car actually start, or does it just make the noise and refuse to turn over?
My car was firing the starter very rapidly when I tried to turn it on, and wouldn't turn over. It turned out to be the battery in my case (the battery was dead so it caused the starter to malfunction, but just replacing the battery solved everything).

You may have the starter pulling away from the flywheel (i.e. bolts loose). Could be wonr teeth on the starter or the flywheel. If either of these are worn you would hear it. On the other hand the solenoid plunger that moves the starter gear in and out may not be retracting like it should. Looks like you wont know till the starters off. Good luck.
Are you doing it or having it done? If youre doing it I can tell you what my service manual says for trouble shooting. You have to remove the starter and have a volt/ohm meter. Let me know if you need specifics.
If it was me, I'd start by looking for loose bolts or anything awry, then take the starter off and check the starter per the manual specs.
