Started to paint the engine

What do you think? I was thinking about doing the strut bar and maybe the fuse covers as well. Negative comments welcome

I just used some high temp red engine paint. It is really a deeper red in person but the flash made it look pinkish. The valve cover just needed to be wiped off. I havent ever really cleaned the engine much but the cover was like the cleanist thing in there. i still have to do a lot more cleaning though. Oh i found a pic in SCC of a honda accord's 4 cylinder valve cover painted and it looked pretty good but im not sure i want to pull that off. Just thought you would like to know someone has done it

I really like how the engine bay (black) is contrasted by the red.

Go ahead with the fuse cover and strut bar. It will help with uniformity.

The dealer replaced my valve cover at the 30k service (don't ask me why) so mine is nice & clean!

Hows this for a header

I would like to get them but i need some of that green stuff. Our stock headers look pretty decent to me though (size wise).

go ahead and paint anything else u can. U need more red now. AS far as the heat shield on the header....thats too much red there. shoulda left that alone. better yet save and get some headers. RED plug wires and red intake will help alot.

Thanks for all the comments guys

I was thinking the heat sheild was too much as well but it was kinda rusted looking. The red on the shield did come out nice (quality wise) and is a much deeper red then the pic shows. I am planning on getting some red wires and i was going to order a blue CAI (wanted blue first but couldnt find a good blue for my engine and i had red at home so...)and i figured i would remove the reasonator real quick to see if i liked the sound and i dont really. I know the CAI is different but my g/f doesnt like the extra noise and my mom rode in the car the other day and was like why is it so loud? The intake would look really nice but i think it would be too loud for my tastes.

Did you buy the red engine paint from the local auto store?
I'm doing the same thing once the weather gets better. I don't think the red heat shield is too much. If you get a red silicone kit and wire cover kit and then do the fuse and airbox covers in red (maybe even the stock air tube too) then it will really start to come together. If you don't like the look of the red heat shield and want to do a little more work then i'd suggest getting some black paint and detail the stamped picture of the hand and "do not touch" on it. Then it will give it some more detail and won't look so overpowering.
Did you use primer? What type? What brand of paint did you use?

I'm going with the red accents as well...

Peace, keep it up.

Hey Nomad Thanks for the compliments and im glad you like the red. Wasnt sure weather to do red or blue. I really like the idea of doing the hand and the hot thing in black. Thanks for the idea.

I used some high temp Dupli-color (Ford Red) paint that i got at wal-mart but discount auto parts and places like that have it too. To do things like the little metal brackets i cleaned them really well with rubbing alcohol and than lightly sanded them and cleaned them again. I found alittle high temp primer in my garage but i cant remember who made it or where it came from (it was my dad's and the label came off and he just wrote what it was on the can) and i cant find anymore of it so i ended up doing like the heat sheild and stuff w/o primer. I hope its not a big deal but we shall see. I was afraid if i didnt use high temp primer it would peel or something I did end up doing a fuse box cover (masked off the fuse chart of the cover) and painted it red and it looks great. I will take some more pics later if you like. I want to do the strut bar and another fuse box cover but i need to get some more paint. I would like to do the stock air box but i want to see how well the fuse box cover holds up before i paint something as large as that air box. Im going to get some red plug wires and a silicon hose kit but i wanted to know if the silicon hoses fit over the existing pipes or replace them. Anyone know? Is it hard to do?

Oh VXCL your engine looks great but you suck because now i want some headers

Silicone hoses take the place of the stock vacuum lines.
The wire covers obviously just take the place of the stock black wire covers.

I don't think you need to do the plastic in hi-temp paint... they should be fine with paint that is made to stick to plastic etc.

let's see more pics when you get done!

Peace.
