squeaky brakes... WTF??
okay... first, let me just remind y'all that i know nothing about brakes, so i'm sorry if anything here comes out sounding stupid
i got my rear brakes done @ the dealer when i bought my car in august, and my fronts done about 2 weeks after that at a firestone place (not my first choice, but it was close by & i just needed to get it done).
anyways, ever since i got the fronts done, it's been squeaking like a mofo. sooo annoying!! but everyone kept telling me "oh you just have to let them wear in a little bit & they'll be fine." well i've put a few thousand miles on these babies & they're still squeaking.
so today i took it into the firestone place and (just cuz this is the kinda luck i have!) the guy drove it all over the place & couldn't get it to squeak. THEN, they tell me that when they did the front brakes they put organic pads on it, so theoretically it shouldn't squeak at all EVER cuz there's nothing metallic in them.
so this is when i say... WTF??
can someone please be kind enough to tell me what's going on here?! thanks a bunch

It could be dirt in the pad, could just be the type of pad!!! I have that problem now myself but I know that mine is the type or brand of pads!!! I would fors t invest the $30 for new pads and see what happens!!!
Good luck hun!

lol.. where do you get hat its not the pads?! I might not be a certified mechanic but i have had enough cars, worked on enough cars, changed enough brakes (rotors, calipers and pads) to confidently say it IS the pads!!

okay... so the big important question here is... IS it possible for organic brake pads to still squeak -- i.e., is the firestone guy on crack?

well i garauntee that they probably didnt use HONDA parts... so yes any aftermnarket rotor and pad can sqeak!!! Even different pads on a stock rotor can squeak NEW!!! Leave whtever rotors you have on there as is... spend the least amount of $$$ and change your pads again to actual stock pads... betcha the sqeakin disappears!!!

my friend a while back had the same problem on his 97 eclipse. he replaced his pads with aftermarket ones that he bought online, and it squeaked for like a 3 months.. and finally he took it to the dealer, and they replaced his pads with mitsubishi brand pads.. and after that, the sound was gone! maybe your car is more sensative on what kinda pads it gets...

wow ur pretty hot!!! sorry but im allergic to cats
good luck with the brakes mine drivers side rear is really squeeky now... did searches on that could be the brake wear indicator... is it expensive to fix? or does it mean I just need to get some new pads.

Organic or not they can squeek. Plus thats not usually the part of the brake that squeeks anyway. They have a mechanism that is a piece of metal that rubs the rotor when the pads self adjust if they are too thin. That lets of the high pitched squeel we are familiar with. But sometimes the pads themselves squeek, which is the sound you hear if it only squeeks when you put the brakes on. If its the metal mechanism then it happens *usually* when the brakes are not on.

I work for Firstone....as a mechanic....
Go back and nicely complane. Your car should have slammer rotors on it. The four bolts that hold the rotor to the hub should be torked down ( They used an impact I bet ya) Same thing on the wheels. This will cause a warped rotor later. Also if the axle nut was not tighten all the way down the rotor will move just enough to squell.
BTW Please don't judge all Firestones or mechaics by the actions of one.

just a lil update... the squeaking has (ironically) almost totally gone away since i had it in at the firestone place. hmmm. i'm kinda expecting it to come back, but i guess i'll just wait and see. either way, i'm takin it in to the acura dealer tomorrow to get something else taken care of, so maybe i'll look into getting different pads or whatever too.
oh, and i think a few people mentioned stuff about it possibly being the brake wear indicator... it's definitely not that cuz the pads are still almost new, plus the squeaking only happens when i'm braking.
thanks for the advice guys!! i'll keep ya posted

Also I've been hearing a clanking sound in the rear left whenever I put the brakes on.. I can only notice this when I'm just about to come to a stop.. Any insights?
