Apparently they are lighter and give you better gas mileage.. but seeing as air is 70% nitrogen or something like that, I don't see how the difference could be extreme.
Oh and they don't compliment combustion. Aircraft like 747's and stuff use nitrogen filled tires because they don't overheat an combust, so safety issue too.

Thats not totally true it will leech out slowly over time and you do need to keep an eye on the pressure. Its just that since it has no oxygen component, like standard compressed air, it doesn't cause oxidation which allows the tire to hold its pressure longer. Its a common misconception
