Spoiler or no spoiler?
Spoiler or no spoiler?
Okay - I'm new at this - I'm also a girl who doesn't want my car to be too flashy, but still a little sporty. I just got a 1998 CL3.0. It doesn't have a spoiler. Originally I thought it was a great idea to get a spoiler, but now I'm not sure. Anybody have any advice? I know everybody has different opinions on this, but just want to see what people have to say.
My car looks identical to this one - except there is a guard above the sunroof - everything else is standard -

Welcom to the board. This is all a matter of personal preference and if you take a look at the photo gallery, you will see many with and without spoilers. I personally dont have one on mine and i dont really like the look. It depends on how the rest of the car looks that makes the spoiler look nice. Good luck and have fun with the car. (and prepare for everryone to ask for pics of yourself......)
First of all... welcome.
I am a no spoiler kind of guy. I don't like the idea of holes being drilled into my truck. I also think it looks better, (cleaner) without the spoiler. With the spoiler on the truck it increases the chance of the trunk lid closing on your head because of the added weight.
Just my

Yeah, I'm actually really worried about getting it put on and then not liking it or the guy messing it up - at that point there is really no going back except to get a whole new lid. I just feel like I need something to spruce up my car a little. Is there anything else I could do that might make it look a little sharper, without drilling holes? Maybe I could have the windows tinted or something - I'm just new at this - my first nice car.
Might want to check out the picture gallery for some ideas.
I'm not a big fan of window tint either. Check state laws before tinting. Rear defrosters can cause bubbles in the tint over time.
Maybe, some sport springs???? to give a lower stance, and improve handling.
Again, it's all personal opinion...
Either way... enjoy

I think I'll start with the clear corner lights - that's cheap and I'll see where that takes me. I agree that the end is a bit droopy without a spoiler - I just can't decide. I live in Illinois so I don't think tinted windows is a good idea - I know they really ticket around here. I drive a lot in the country so lowering it would probably be bad (potholes, roadkill, gravel, etc.), but new rims sounds good - what's a good brand that doesn't look too
?
I'm just so damn picky - I just want my car to look classy, but still have my own touches.

Well if you want to make it look classy, then don't buy rims and not lower it. The Eibach Pro-Kit settles at around 1.5 inches front and back. Then some nice 18" wheels will make the car look a whole lot better.
I'm in the same boat as you, I want to keep mine classy yet stylish. I am going with the spoiler. The rear just drops, which I'm not too fond of. The OEM style spoiler is a very conservative spoiler and in my opion, adds to the car. I just bought mine and it will be here on Tuesday. It is prepainted so I will install it then. I will post some nice before and after pics.
As for rims, it depends on how much you want to spend. If you have the cash look into Racing Harts (my personal favorites) or the Ronjon wheels. Other than that look in the photo gallery or cardomain.com for ideas. You will find a style that sticks with you and then just find the right ones. You look at the 1000's of wheel sites out there, some are www.discounttire.com, www.wheelmax.com, www.1010tires.com, eBay, and many more. They all have good selections and pricing.
As for lowering it, when you put larger rims on, 18" or even 17", the car looks like it sits high. You can snug it up just a bit with an Eibach Pro-Kit (only a 1.3" drop) that will make it look much better without causing too many probs.
You can do a light tint (well within the legal limits) and not get bugged but adds class to the car.
Just some info.

Spoiler gives the car better lines IMO. Makes the back sit up more.

yeah i bought my CL spoiler-less...the first thing i did was buy a spoiler coz i thought the backend was hideous without it. I bought one cheap off ebay for $110 CDN. FYI Acura charges $800 CDN for the OEM spoiler...

Trust me - That ain't gonna happen (as we would say here in Southern Illinois). If I did get a spoiler it would be the OEM (or replica). Remember - I'm going for a classy look - not a goofy one.
It all depends on the color of the car, type of wheels, level of drop, and whether or not there's a rear lip. I found that cars that are lower with a rear lip, sides, and front lip look good without a spoiler. The rear lip directs the attention lower and a really low key flush mount spoiler won't detract from that. A wing on the other hand will make the whole thing look too busy.
