Something's wrong with my 5 speed tranny?

someone help! I have a 2.3 5-speed with 50,000 miles on it. Since the past month every once in a while when i come to a complete stop, my car won't go into 1st gear. I have to put it back into 2nd, and then into first. Sometimes even this doesn't work and I'm sitting there like an idiot looking like i stalled!

This only happens maybe 1 out of 15 times that I stop, and i'm just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else, or if something might be wrong with my tranny. Thanks rb

mine only has 34k on it and does the same thing you described. also with reverse not just first. if i cant get it into first i just start in 2nd slowly which i know isnt great for the car but better than sitting there.

yeah, reverse does it every once in a while in just about every stick shift that i've driven, but I've never really had this happen to me in 1st with another car.

thats what i had to do today!! usually i can get it in somehow, but today i had to start from second because some bitch started honking behind me.

that happens to me also, what I do is put it into 2nd and release the clutch just a lil then put it back into first and it works every time. clutch might be going, but H22 is in the back yard and new clutch will go in when swap is being done.

It's pretty normal. Nothing serious.
First tranny I had did it all the time when i was tryin to put it back in first.
Took it in at 3000k, 6000k, and 9000k. They told me nothing was up, so I got fed up and trashed the tranny. Mine's workin fine ever since 10,000k. You really shouldn't have to go through all that just to get the tranny fixed. Bad Acura service. The first time I took it in, they told me it was something w/ the cable on the tranny. Find out much later, we have hydroulic trannys. BAD ACURA SERVICE AGAIN!

Mine does that all the time too. What i do is push it into first (pretty lightly) while slowly releasing the clutch, and it pops right in. I don't even realize i'm doing it anymore.

We have cable trannys not hydraulic. We do have hydraulic clutches but not trannies.

As far as being hard to get into gear, I would change the fluid and make sure the proper amount of Honda MTF is in there.

I heard of shifting problems with low fluid levels. You could have a slight leak and now be lower than normal.
