so who cut the BS and actually did a swap?

lets hear it.. i wana see dyno sheets.. and time slips of those who actually built a motor for their cl.. the j30a has a 6 speed trans out too.. so lets see some ppl that hung a clutch on their 3.0 cl's.. all i see is ppl trying to put 24" rims on their HONDA'S and HID's.. lets go.. i'm sure most of you don't know me.. so i'll give you some background.. i owned a cl and built a motor for it.. took it into a tree drifting at 80mph before i dropped the motor in.. so i bought a civic ferio SiR '94 4 door.. blew up the h motor at rmstoic's house.. heh.. btw rm.. i finally took the shit apart.. the crank fell out of the side of the motor.. so now i'm going with a stock h23 bottom end.. f22 trans.. h22a built head.. and a t70 turbo.. and some good old spray to keep it spooled.. my track run was a 14.7 in my CL with a 75 shot and tires.. now back to the subject at hand.. who actually finished a CL? anyone? i don't care about body kits.. clear tails.. euro corners.. painted interior.. big dick chrome rims that slow your car down.. your 75 shot of zex nitrous.. or any of that.. i want to see some times and dyno sheets of h22a's in a CL.. btw.. to all the old school regulars.. nice seeing you guys again.. i had fun in nopi.. had some private photo shoots with apex'i's r34 and signal's s15.. and drank a lot.... didn't see any cl's in the show.. but i really didn't walk around..

Your CL took out a tree. My CL got taken out by a CRV!

I haven't "officially" been timed in the 13s, but I'm pretty sure I'm there.

I should have my car by week's end, then comes the cam swap.

BTW: I didn't think Honda was selling the 6-speed yet???

HEY HEY FODE!

Long time no see!
I dropped in a 2001 USDM H22a but am having some extreme wiring problems here. I hooked up my stock harness and it ran fine till someone hook up both ecu's @ once. Now I am trying to wire the H22 plugs onto my fuckin CL harness and so far so good. I got spark, fuel, my engine light comes on but no fuckin start!

I am giving it another shot tomorow. I didn't have anyone with me today working on it so I really couldn't see if the injectors were pulsating.

Let me know if you got any info for me.

good to hear from ya.

98clturbo has a turboed h22
dcsquirm98 has a built h22 and a 75 shot
vtecpowesumo has a h22
turbotk also has an h22
niedejb has a turboed f22
There is also a new guy who was putting the j32 type s engine in his first gen (not oneqvckcl)

I think that covers it.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you fOde. I was at the Nopi show in the street closest to the sponsor section. White CL 2.2
Sorry, no swap for me.

You should have come out in ATL with the street racers. It rained and ended the fun Sat. but I don't know about Sunday night.

I ragged the heck out of my poor CL that weekend....
Need to drive gentle for a bit.

sounds good black.. i might have a block and crower rods if you want them.. mebbe even pistons.. my crank fell out of my block the other day.. so i have rods and no motor to put them in now.. i'll have to rip it apart further today and see what i can salvage. if the rods are good are you interested?

that's tempting, are the pistons crower too? looking for 9.5:1 compression
i already started buying JUN racing stuff, and i've been talking to JUN in cali about making a stroker kit for the h22, they said r&d is kind of slow in japan right now but they are working on it
so i am kind of debating buying any bottom end stuff until the stroker kit comes out

let me know how everything looks when you take a look at it today

Most people that do swaps have a 2.2 or 2.3. What about 3.0 owners. Can we benefit from the swap too or are there other engines that can be dropped into the 3.0?

i've looked into swapping a prelude motor, it wouldn't be hard to do but you'd have to fabricate some mounts, which isn't too difficult if you know what you are doing. Another thing that's being looked into is getting the type S's 6 speed in. THat would really open this motor up to being able to take some mods w/o worrying about blowing a tranny. Our motor can handle some boost, i've seen it done in dune buggies.

Welcome to the board
an h22a will bolt right in without changing the mounts
you can use our tranny as well
you just need a new ecu if you're going obd1, which i hope you are because you plan on turboing, so you want a closed deck 93-95 engine

ahhh true true true... used internals can be a bad idea... however damaged internals are easily eyed... just make sure you have it checked out before you buy... if it's shiny and smooth then nothing is wrong with it right? ask to see the rings too since he's taking out the pistons... you can tell a lot more from the rings than from the pistons I think... damage will happen to rings first...

they're "bullet proof" pistons.. and JE pistons.. both only been in the motor for about 500 miles.. the crank is technically shaved.. some bearings wore out on the crank and destroyed the crank.. but pistons and rods and bearings are in perfect shape.. crower and JE aren't cheap.. bout 1200 bucks retail for these 2 items.. and rings are about 75 bucks.. and sumone bought them allready.. sry

Why is this thread up from the dead?

MILTF02, if you have something to say start your own thread. And if your going to claim you have a turbo CL your going to have to post pics or alot more info than you just did.

ok, i have done more research on the j30a1 than i bet anyone had.

if you have done as much as me you probably not attempt a swap.

let me explain...

the j30 is the only engine (usdm or jdm) with a 2 stage vtec. all others are 1 stage... except a little rare motor that is 3 stage but i will get into that later.

vtec is simply a pin that is activated by oil pressure at a certain ecu set point of rpms that slides through the valve rocker arm and allows the high rmp lobe of the cam to now connect to the valves. basically to open the valves open wider, and for a longer duration of time, thus allowing more fuel/air mixture to enter the cylinder. the improved breathing allows the engine to sustain its torque output as rpm rises, thus resulting in higher power output opening your intake and exhaust valves.

the j30 has a 2 stage that first shoots a pin through to open the sleeper intake valve at mid rpm range (3800 rpm i think to be exact). after 3800 rpm, another pin is used to lift the rockers onto another cam lobe, which is higher profile, thus resulting in the second stage, which is basically the same stage as the familiar 1 stage vtec motor.

with some help from aem and some other fuel companies, the j30 is very capable of producing 350+ hp before a turbo, nos, sc, or any other major mod, in my opinion. the 2 things that kill us, again in my opinion, are the tranny, and the weight. with a 6 speed tranny, this car would easily gain another 20 hp back from the robbery when they put the AT in, plus the lower GR would help off the line. the weight part is easy.

plus the fact that everybody does intakes and exhausts and headers, and NOS, but never run an air/fuel ratio to see how lean they are running. all air no fuel. if you guys ran a bigger fuel pump, adjustable pressure reg, different rails, injectors, etc... you would see a drastic difference. but therein lies the last problem, there isnt much out for the j30. peace out

venom does make a fuel rail and intake manifold. Im sure other companys make something that will fit. Some parts can be modified such as fuels pumps. Ross, I think you should be the man to make it happen

Quick Reply: so who cut the BS and actually did a swap?
