smashed my oil pan
Yeah so on my way to work this morning at 3:30 am as im getting off the interstate i ran over a large rock in the road. I tried to get it in the middle instead of taking it with my rim and it was to big...
It hit my oil pan and put a large dent on the very bottom next to drain plug and now i have a leak, my plug wont tighten up it acts like it is stripped out ( tightens to a point then gets loose again).
So i need to put a new/used one on has anyone done this before?
does the header need to come off any cross beam or anything?
its a 2.3

So I just had this shit happen last night. Went over a pot hole and pierced the pan, looks like someone shot it, not even a dent. I debating what to do, it seems like if there's nothing around the area of the hole, perhaps I could thread it and put a bolt in for the tme being. I'm seriously spending way too much time on stupid crap recently.

how low are you guys to be piercing oilpans? I wouldn't take a risk with an oilpan, I'd replace it since if it leaks after the repair and you don't catch it, it can leak all your oil out and then ur engine is done.

well, it did leak out ALL my oil. My main concern was whether I had the clearance inside. So I'm going to pull the pan and assess if I can repair it, I'm thinking an actual nut and bolt with RTV, shouldn't start leaking that way. I did find a pan if I need to go that route, local acura has it $140. Honestly i'm just short on cash this week and this is my only day off, so I have to try to avoid spending unnecessary money.
I'm dropped on neuspeed springs, so like 2". It was mother of a pot hole, I thought I cracked my rim than about 4 miles later the oil light came on, Looks like someone shot it with a 22cal. Luckily I was using mobil 1, so I'm hoping that saved me from damage.
I think the worst part of this mess will be cleaning the quart or so of oil off the bottom of the car, the entire thing is completely covered.
edit; someon could really help me out if they had the torque spec on the pan bolts for the j30

thanks for the torque.
This actually is working fantastic. Hole works, it came out to be a 7/16" pulled the pan just now and just waiting to go over to honda for the gasket maker. My plan might sound stupid, but the hole was in a good spot to repair. I have very very little doubt this this will work for basically ever.
Surp
rised the pan is super clean inside. don't worry I took pic of most of the job, but I'm literally typing under my hood right now, so I'll upload them later.
All I had to do was unbold the A-pipe from the manifolds to drop it just a bit, removed the cross brace and popped it off, they dont even use much of a gasket, it's like a 1/16" bead.. kinda surprised by that.

i got that from an accord manual
i'm looking at the 3.0 cl one now, and it says 106 INCH pounds
which is like 8.8 ft lbs... but you probably don't have a torque wrench that reads under 10lbs.. so 10lbs should work fine

I finished, yeah I had to feel for about 10lbs, wrench only goes down to 20, I hate having to do that.
Had her running already, seems just fine. Smoking from all the oil on the car, but no leaks. I'll get the pics up, I'm pretty tired after that crap.
Nothing like spending your 1 day off of the week under the car all day.

My Oil Pan Plug had the same thing going on about a month ago. It seemed stripped, and even though it was on, it didn't tighten as you said. All I did was go to AutoZone, asked the guy what bolt I needed for it. Picked up a bolt there for like $4, which was a little longer than the original, and it tightened up perfectly. Problem Solved lol.

On another note, sorry for the lack of pics, The car is still on the jack stand. Went out this morning and the tire was flat, popped it on the pot hole. So I put my spare on... flat as well. So I had to have my company pick me up for work today. Embarrassing and frustrating to say the least.
I got one pic uploaded... I'll get the rest soon
this is the bolt. I've got shots of the inside of the pan and such
anyone know if I'm at risk of catching on fire from the oil underneith or shood it just smoke off? I was thinking I might be ok since it's full synthetic.
