Side Mirror defroster
Side Mirror defroster
Ok the light seems to come on once and a while when I play with the button for the side mirror defroster. Any ideas? Think it might be a dirty contact but not sure how to check?
A little help would be appreciated.

so when you switch them on, the light dosent always stay on? right?
There is a micro switch inside the mirror control, the little metal "arm" on it gets bent over time. Causing intermittent operation of the heaters. It is easily fixed if you feel up to opening up the switch... if you're not up to it, i'd be glad to do it for you if you're willing to send me the mirror control.

Re side mirror
sounds simple if you're willing to give a little detail I'll give it a try.
Is the control just the unit in the door arm? If so I can just pop it off and have a look. But I'm wondering if the unit gets bent, does that mean I should replace the unit or can that piece of metal be straightened?

it is pretty simple to acomplish. the switch/control just pops out of the arm, and unplugs from behind. Once you have the switch out, I believe there is a screw on the back, a small philips one... take that out, if its not there, thats ok, im just thinking of a different mirror switch. The back of the switch is locked into the housing by small tabs... insert a small slotted screwdriver or knife to pop the tabs out and the back of the switch will come apart.
Be careful not to drop it once its apart, theres small parts inside that will get knocked out and you'll have a really hard time figuring out how it goes back together.
The switch for the heaters is attached to the circuit board, you'll see the little metal tab attached to it. All you have to do is bend it away from the PC board, carefully. If you break it somehow, that switch can be replaced.
During the day, i'll take the switch out of my moms car and take a look at it to make sure my directions were acurate... its been a while since I did it. I'll take some pictures as well, so you'll have a better idea what i'm talking about.
