Side marker laser pointer lights?

ok, I was just driving today, and was stuck behind a car with a gap on it's left, and I can never tell how wide my CL is, I alwasy think it's wider than it is. So I was thinking, how difficult do you guys think it might be to rig up some laser pointer type lights in the corner lights that would be activated by a switch. they would point straight forward, so that when you were driving and youw anted to see if your car would hit another car it woudl show the light on their car. I know this is kinda retarded, but thought it would be kinda cool.

how legal do you think this would be? what color's would give me less of a problem after installed?

um, install aftermarket side markers, but clear them up and put in a laser pointer. solder the pointer to a bunch of shit and then ocnnect it to a switch? lol

One other suggestion... Get your distance vision checked.

You can tell if you learn the visual cues of your car.

it would be easy to do. i know that it wouldnt be 100% legal, but as long as it wasnt blinding anyone, i dont see any problem.

it would be really cheap too.

heres the type of laser diode you would want to use.
http://cgi.ebay.com/LASER-DIODE-645-...QQcmdZViewItem
or
http://cgi.ebay.com/INDUSTRIAL-LASER...QQcmdZViewItem

and then you just need to figure out a power source. easiest would be a couple AA bateries. with a battery pack, like:
http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...-32&type=store

you could run it from your car battery with resistors, but the diode needs under 3 volts, and seing as a car is 12-14 volts it would be hard to keep it at a constant 3 volts, if you go over that, you an fry the diode.

red is the cheapest..

i have a green laser pointer. it is the craziest thing to play with. hits 2 miles away, and you can see the beam the whole way.

I already wear glasses, so I can see fine, but judging the clearance based on what I can see is a bit difficult. I thought I did a fine job until I had a passenger the other day and was in that situation and said "I guess I'll just wait for them to move." and the passenger said "you wouldn't go through that gap? there is at least a foot of room." then it got me wondering.

From a Fusable 12volt lead use this set up:

+12v ---- Switch ---- 33k Resistor --- 33k Resistor --- + Side Of pointer

ANd ground the - of it

THe resistors will reduce the voltage from 12v to 3v

yea.. but what if the car is idling and its charging at 14.4 like its suposed to.. then you have 5.4 volts. and if you used a resister high enough to make it 3v at 14.4, then it wont have enough power if the car is sucking more power, and its charging at 12v.
