Short ram intake installed on 3.0...no big sound difference?
Pardon my ignorance, but are the short rams really supposed to do jack-sh*t in terms of sound for the v6's? Coming from a bone stock (performance wise) 4th gen accord with only a short ram, I guess I was expecting a deep growl from 2k all the way through the band. When I floored the f22 it would seriously scream.
But like, I installed a short ram on the CL today, and though I did notice a deep hum at idle (as with all intakes), when I got on the throttle I literally noticed little to no difference in sound. The only thing I did notice is that the intake would emmit a strong, brief whine/hiss at the top of the shift if I really got on it, kind of psuedo blow-off valve sounding. Though this was kinda cool, it's not exactly what I was expecting.
I just got the generic short ram with open ended filter off ebay. Am I the only one experiencing this disappointment?

I have a short ram on my 3.0, and it's loud as hell. But only when you're in the upper RPM/VTEC range - not during normal driving which I like. IMO, it doesn't hum. If I remember, I'll bring my camera so I can take a sound clip today.
I once went down an onramp while I wound out third and some construction workers were in the grass off to the side. They all stopped what they were doing and stared as I went by. I don't even have an exhaust, but the car still gets loud because of the intake.

The UFO sound only arose when I installed the headers on stock exhaust, so fliplyricist1, you may not experience the sound unless you get some headers...maybe your car is in limp mode, so VTEC isn't kicking in?

Yah I got the generic ebay intake on mine to but wit a K&N filter on. Kinda has a light humming sound with a swooshing sound kinda like a blow off at shift points. But it's fairly quiet except at higher RPMS or when the vtec kicks in then it sounds alot louder and more aggressive sounding. And yah it's a short ram also.

removing the resonators would free up some air movement. i did that and then just put in a k&n filter. but with the bigger piping on the SRI you should for surely hear a difference. id say the filter plays a big part in it. try to find a cone style k&n, that should help.

^^ ok man, so I guess it's normal
yep, went back and triple checked all my connections/fittings and all was good. I guess I didn't push it hard enough, cuz when it hit vtec today it screamed. However, if I'm not flooring it, the only thing I can hear from the short ram is a slight whistle followed by a air released whine...sounds kinda cool, but I was hoping more for grumble. With my f22 if I had my foot even halfway down on the pedal it would roar all the way through the band. oh well...for 2x bucks I can't complain
