i recently noticed squeaking noise from the front ,,so maybe i have to change my shocks,,
anyhow

now that i might have to get it done...
what is involved in lower a car,, (dont hammer me on doing a search cause i did)

i know i have to get new springs, whats the difference between adjustable springs and Coilovers ,

coilovers are fully adj (heightwise) and usually come with their own shocks. The only coilovers id suggest are teins which are $800+ for springs, i would suggest H&R sports, eibach sportlines, or neuspeed sports. (all about $100-150). For shocks I would recommend koni yellows, or kyb agxs. You can find these all on ebay

ps. its "noob" not "knob"

just stay away from those sleeve coil-over...doesnt matter wat brand...all of them suck cuz the springs are too short. if you want adjustable coil-over i would recommend Tein as well, very smooth ride and fully adjustable. $800 is what u usually find it for but check out ebay and group buy, u might find it for around $650. which isnt bad cuz its a full damper system so u wont need to buy shocks/struts.

you would need shocks if you're going with just lowering spring (not adjustable), Koni Yellow or KYB AGX are the way to go, u can ride on ur stock shocks, but u'll never know when they'll go out on u could be the same week could be a year down the line. so i would save up and do all at once. shocks/struts would run u around $260 - $350

NO that is again totally WRONG. if you're saying ground control coilover sleeves or skunk 2 coilover sleeves suck then you just said that most of the setups autocrossers and road racers use are crap..revalved koni yellows + ground control ring a bell? First off, Ground control uses eibach ers springs..a reputable company right? Where does tein get their springs from? I've been trying to figure this out for a while.

people have bad experiences with coilover sleeves because either 1) they bought shitty ones off ebay for 40 dollars with crappy springs and unknown spring rates or/and 2) they mated them to crappy shocks (like stock or kyb gr2 or something)

You can't say coilover sleeves' springs are too short without clarifying what the use is for. With ANY coilover sleeve you can switch out the springs for different custom springs and you can choose your spring rate and length, just keep the inner diameter the same (companies like eibach and hypercoils). For racing applications, you want short springs for minmal/no preload..for daily driving preload (or using longer springs) can help ride comfort. Ground control will figure out the spring dimensions for you based on what you plan on doing with your car..or you can pick and choose yourself.

I would take a koni + ground control setup over tein ss ANYDAY ANYTIME. why? First, eibach has established itself with as a reputable spring company. I dunno where tein gets its springs. Also, with this setup, you are more free to swap in springs of whatever rate you want. Yes you can do the same with tein..but tein's shocks can't run as high rates (i believe they are limited to 450lbs in front and 400 in the rear). But with konis, you can run MUCH higher rates, run shorter springs, have the shocks revalved and shortened. Koni shocks also aren't 16 way adjustable..they are "infinitely" adjustable because you don't have to "click" the knobs into position

i mention the above only if you plan on autocross or racing your car. If you just wanna lower it for looks and comfort why spend $800 when you can lower your car and get a good ride by spending $500? use the extra $300 on tires or something.

If you got the lowering springs but are still running on the stock shocks, will the ride be any different? What advantages are there to getting new shocks with the lowering springs? Will the stock shocks go on you faster?

the stock shocks will go out pretty fast with any type of agressive drop

not only that but your shocks won't dampen the springs correctly and then when your car hits a bump your car will keep bouncing up and down the street

unless u cut the bump stops.

i got suspension techniques springs and ther only a 1.5" drop but they ride alot closer to stock than eibach. however they dont handle quite like eibachs do. maybee bout 25% better than stock, but i wanted ride quality, and hell ill take the extra 25% for handling.

however i did use stock shocks, and within the first month one took a dump on me. but then again i got 108k miles on her. so what im saying is definatly get some shocks/struts, (which dont have to be adjustable by the way)

you were able to use the stock shocks because suspension techniques uses really low spring rates...you might get away with off the shelf "sport springs" like hnr sport or eibach prokit but nothing more

those of you with aggressive drops may want to give some info on camber kits too with some of these setups

The original owner of my Cl did lower the car with new springs, but I'm not sure if they replaced the stock shocks. I didn't buy the car from the owner so I am unable to find out from them. Can anyone tell me if these shocks are stock, or how I will be able to know if they are aftermarket?

have u even riden in a car with ground control? my friend got ground control with KYB AGX on this maxima and that shit ride like ass....it ride like my Maxspeed Coilover. sleeve coil-over might be good for autocross and show but not for daily street, i will never buy another set. Skunk 2 coil-over is just as bad (drove a integra with skunk2). u hit a pot hoe on any coil-over and it seem like u hit a rock. cornering on my car feel a hundred time better with Neuspeed Sport and KYB AGX.

i have driven and riden cars with ground control..one with revalved and shortened konis with 500lb rear and 600lb front rates...I loved the ride..it was firm but not harsh..all cars were daily driven

what shocks were used with the skunk2's?

I'm not saying that ALL coilover sleeves will give a good daily driving ride..it depends on the things i mentioned earlier, car, springrate, shocks, settings, tires, preload and other small things but using low spring rates on coilover sleeves(like 200lbs front and rear or something) CAN give you a ride like sport springs if you wanted

sport springs like eibach, neuspeed, hnr and others have a progressive spring rate..this is to help soften the ride but will not compare to linear rates used on coilover sleeves and performance springs when it comes to cornering and transitions

what it basically comes down to is what you want out of your car and preferences..sometimes you have to give a little to get a little back

If you only do one piece at a time, do your shocks, then swap out your springs. Or just buy one, then the other, then install. Its safer than doing your springs then shocks, the stock shocks on higher rate springs will give you hoppity and youll look like a damn bullfrog going down the road plus its less safe. Whereas the aftermarket shocks will have more than enough dampening force for stock springs, and you will like the ride difference. Then, when you do the springs, you will really enjoy!
